Strange New Worlds season 3

Okay, watched both episodes. Observations in spoilers:
First episode is an excellent wrap up for the Gorn saga... a saga that Spock, Uhura, and Scotty are going to have to forget so that when they see the Gorn again in "Arena" they can act like they don't know what the fuck a Gorn is. Some tense moments such as the possibility we were going to lose Ortegas... one of my favorite characters on this show.

Second episode is dumb. No, I'm sorry... it's just dumb. Now every franchise has its dumb episodes (witness Doctor Who's "Kill The Moon"), but this shit was totally unnecessary. Most of it is stuff I could care less about, and the villain turns out to be Trelane... someone Spock, Uhura, and Scotty are going to have to forget so that when they see Trelane again in "The Squire of Gothos" they can act like they don't know who the fuck he is.

Anyone else sensing a pattern for this season?

I genuinely like SNW, but for fuck's sake, stop this and create new stuff.
 
3.1 - It was good seeing the characters I liked doing stuff again and it was a well paced and enjoyable enough opner. But it did suffer a bit from the typical second part of a Trek two-parter thing where it kind of feels like they're making it up as they go along. Why were the binary stars so small? Is that a thing with binary stars? Scotty and Pelia were fun together. I'm glad Batel survived but I guess her and Pike will have to split up eventually. I was hoping for a bit more of an explanation of the Gorn and why they're so different here from the other times we've seen them. I suppose it's just "different stage of their life cycle."

3.2 - I liked it, SNW does this fun stuff well. Rhys Darby as Trelane was perfect casting. What are the LORE IMPLICATIONS of John de Lancie voicing his dad? I don't know. Maybe this is Q when he was millions of years younger too and he used to just fly around as a cloud thing. It's not for us to know! The name "Trelane" was never used and Spock and the rest only ever saw him as a Vulcan bartender and Andorian wedding planner, so there's no reason they would have recognised him in TOS. I can't dislike an episode that gives us everyone dancing to Wham! and hints that Ortegas is finally getting a proper storyline.

Shallow note: Christina Chong in all the dancing scenes and Celia Rose Gooding in that dress as the wedding. :yoohoo:

First: Christina Chong. Yeah. I understand totally.

That being said: Trelane and Spock do have a face to face in SoG. Trelane asks which one is Spock after Spock beamed everyone out of Castle Trelane, and then demanded Spock be disciplined for it. He looked right at him once Spock identified himself. Now you can argue this isn't Trelane per se, but another one... who dresses like Trelane, has the same hairstyle and sideburns, and acts exactly like Trelane does when his parents come down on him. Okay. I guess you can call that a technicality.

CRG has an excellent grasp on Uhura. When the series started, she had the same joyful look on her face Nichelle Nichols did at times. Now, she's starting to pork out a little.

But Christina Chong? I'd sell blood to do her. I'd sell your blood to do her. It helps that she's an excellent actress.

As far as Christina goes I posted this awhile back. I think it's still worthy. And Merry Christmas!
