3.1 - It was good seeing the characters I liked doing stuff again and it was a well paced and enjoyable enough opner. But it did suffer a bit from the typical second part of a Trek two-parter thing where it kind of feels like they're making it up as they go along. Why were the binary stars so small? Is that a thing with binary stars? Scotty and Pelia were fun together. I'm glad Batel survived but I guess her and Pike will have to split up eventually. I was hoping for a bit more of an explanation of the Gorn and why they're so different here from the other times we've seen them. I suppose it's just "different stage of their life cycle."
3.2 - I liked it,
SNW does this fun stuff well. Rhys Darby as Trelane was perfect casting. What are the LORE IMPLICATIONS of John de Lancie voicing his dad? I don't know. Maybe this is Q when he was millions of years younger too and he used to just fly around as a cloud thing. It's not for us to know! The name "Trelane" was never used and Spock and the rest only ever saw him as a Vulcan bartender and Andorian wedding planner, so there's no reason they would have recognised him in
TOS. I can't dislike an episode that gives us everyone dancing to Wham! and hints that Ortegas is finally getting a proper storyline.
Shallow note: Christina Chong in all the dancing scenes and Celia Rose Gooding in that dress as the wedding.
