Mirah

I love you
I had a really awesome productive day.
MY FB memory told me.
Also 12 years ago I posted "I'm back" and "I feel so good" and I posted about ice cream.

I wonder where I was?!

Also last night I totally organized my storage. Started when I got off work and didn't stop for about 4 hours. I didn't even have dinner.

I guess this is the time of year I get that burst of energy.

Cool.

I'm studying to be a CHC (certified health and wellness coach) and one of the assignments is me being coached by someone who already has gone through the coaching process.

This psychology uses what's called "Motivational Interviewing" so I feel you Mirah.

I'm getting stuff done I never thought possible.

I think it has to do with the worm moon
and Spring
and proper sinus medication

I've never heard of motivational interviewing. Here is what I found out

Motivational interviewing is a counseling approach designed to help people find the motivation to make a positive behavior change. This client-centered approach is particularly effective for people who have mixed feelings about changing their behavior.

Unlike treatment models that emphasize the counselor as an authority figure, motivational interviewing recognizes that the true power for making changes rests within the client. The counselor cannot demand this change.

Put another way, it is up to the client to take the actions necessary to change their behavior. They must put in the work. This is self-empowering to the individual, but also gives them personal responsibility over their actions.

That's it, pretty much in a nutshell. I've been studying CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) since january to learn the skillset that's needed to do this work. I'll be sitting for the national boards to be Certified in May 2023. Will have access to insurance billing codes and will be able to take referrals from any medical professional and get paid by the clients insurance with it.

The concept of MI involves the acronym "OARS"

OARS stands for:

O : Open ended questions...the coach asks the client these kinds of questions (Sounds like, Looks like) to eiicit the clients responses in a way that they do the the thinking. The coach holds the space.

A: Affirmations. When the client responds to the open ended question, the coach responds with a positive affirmation about the comment. Using deep listening and empathy the coach encourages the client through "Unconditional Positive Regard" to go deeper.

R: Reflections. When the discussion evolves, the coach uses reflections to mirror the clients behavor back to them in a positive way.

S: Summaries. As part of the conversation, the coach will summarize what's taken place, This is also called feedback.

It's a UVM (University of Vermont) accredited Health/Psychology course. We meet on Monday afternoons for three hours and have a coaching lab each week where we breakup into smaller groups of 3 with a TA to moderate. it's quite amazing what I've been learning this year.
