24-year-old Aymen Terkmani of Australiawas sentenced to 45 years in prison and he must serve 33 years before he is eligible for parole after he was found guilty of raping and killing 16-year-old Mahmoud Hrouk.
Hrouk was a hard-working teenager who supported his family living in Sydney.
One day after work, Hrouk asked his father for permission to go to a McDonald’s with his older friends. His father reluctantly agreed and that was the last place the teen was seen alive.
At 9:45 p.m., when the teen’s mother Maha Dunia called and demanded that he come home, Hrouk told her that he was hanging out with Terkmani and he gave his mother the address of the home where he was staying.
When he failed to come home, the teen’s family went looking for him. Terkmani claimed that the teen left his house.
Family members found the boy’s bike abandoned on the side of the road, which made them believe that Hrouk was involved in an accident.
However, the next day, they found Hrouk’s body in an unoccupied apartment, which police learned Terkmani used to smoke cannabis, play pool, and entertain an escort.
At some point during the night, the suspect raped the teen and used random household items such as a toaster and rolling pin to beat him to death.
NSW Supreme Court Justice Lucy McCallum said that the murder did not seem to be premeditated but rather due to a drug-fueled rage.
Terkmani never disclosed the reason for the murder. However, prosecutors believe that Terkmani was angered when the teen told his mother the address where they were hanging out because Terkmani was supposed to be at home while on bail for previous drug offenses.
After sentencing, Maha Dunia thanked the jury, prosecutors, and everyone involved in seeing to it that her son’s killer was jailed and that justice was served.
