2024 NHL draft order: picks 1 - 16 following draft lottery
The San Jose Sharks are the winners of the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery, giving them the first crack at drafting top prospect Macklin Celebrini during next month’s NHL Draft in Las Vegas. It’s the first time they’ve had the first-overall pick. They’ve had the second-overall pick on three different occasions.

2024 NHL mock draft: Post-lottery projections for picks 1-32

The 2024 draft lottery is in the rearview mirror, and for the first time, it was a chalk lottery. The teams that were supposed to get the top two picks -- the San Jose Sharks and the Chicago Blackhawks received the top two picks. Apart from some playoff seeding that could rearrange the draft order a little bit at the bottom, we know who is picking where. While my first mock draft required a bit of projecting for the draft order, now the mock drafts get a little more real as picks are locked in. The first round of the 2024 NHL draft will be held in Las Vegas at the Sphere on Friday, June 28 (7 p.m. ET, ESPN/ESPN+). Rounds 2-7 will be on Saturday, June 29 (11:30 a.m. ET, ESPN+).

Elite Prospects' post-lottery 2024 NHL Mock Draft

The 2024 NHL draft will take place at The Sphere in Las Vegas on June 28 and 29. Hundreds of prospects will be selected over the course of the seven-round event, and the first 16 picks have been determined by way of the NHL draft lottery. After finishing the 2023-24 season with the worst record, the San Josee Sharks had the best chance to win the draft lottery -- and did so. The Chicago Blackhawks-- who won the draft lottery and selected Connor Bedard No. 1 last year -- have pick No. 2.

Here is a list of the first 16 picks, which will be updated after the full draft order is known following the end of the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs.

Note that the Sharks' selection at No. 14 overall is the result of the 2023 trade that sent Erik Karlsson to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Winners, losers of NHL draft lottery 2024: Sharks land top pick, right to select Macklin Celebrini

The San Jose Sharks landed the first pick in the 2024 NHL draft during Tuesday night's lottery and the right to select Boston University standout Macklin Celebrini in June. The Sharks finished last overall and had 18.5% odds to win the pick. They will select first for the first time in franchise history. The Chicago Blackhawks, last year's lottery winner, will get the second pick as no team moved up in the lottery. Celebrini, 17, a 6-foot, 190-pound freshman center, had 32 goals and 32 assists in 38 games to lead the Terriers to the Frozen Four, where they lost to eventual champion Denver in the semifinals. He Won the Hobey Baker Awrad as college hockey's top men's player, plus was voted Hockey East's top player and rookie.

sacha boisvert: nhl draft profile: the top ushl draft prospects this year
Welcome to another draft profile here at AATJ! Today, we look at who is likely the top USHL draft prospect this year, center Sacha Boisvert. He has first round talent, but where will he go? Having found success in the USHL and heading to a quality NCAA school in the fall, he has done well in the rankings and scouts like him. He is projected to go sometime in the 2nd half of the first round this year.

Stanley Cup playoffs averaging record 1.16M viewers in U.S.

The first two rounds of the Stanley Cup playoffs have been the most-watched in the U.S. Going into the conference finals, the playoffs are averaging 1.16 million viewers across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS and truTV. That is a 9% increase over last year. The conference semifinals, where all four series went at least six games, averaged 1.55 million, a 12% jump. The Florida Panthers' 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins in Game 6 on May 17, averaged 2.2 million on TNT, truTV and Max. The first game of the Carolina Panthers-New York Rangers series on May 5 averaged 2 million on ESPN. The first round of the playoffs averaged 934,000 viewers, the second-most watched first round for the NHL in the U.S.

Islanders, Blackhawks swap first-round picks ahead of 2024 NHL Draft

The New York Islanders and Chicago Blackhawks swapped 2024 draft picks, the teams announced Friday. The Isles are sending the 18th and 50th picks in next month’s draft to the Blackhawks for Nos. 20, 54 and 61, giving New York an extra second-round pick in exchange for moving down a few spots with its original first- and second-round selections.

Chicago, which also holds the No. 2 pick in the draft, has assembled an arsenal of picks in recent years, with the obvious pinnacle being able to select Connor Bedard with the top pick in last year’s draft. The Blackhawks will have multiple first- and second-round picks through the 2026 draft so they were likely looking — and may still look — to package some of those selections and move into a more prime drafting position.]

NHL Mock Draft 2024: Pronman, Wheeler and Bultman play GM and pick the first round

Last year, for the first time, we tested out an “if I were GM” mock draft, swapping out what we predict will happen to make our own selections for each team. Today, it’s back by popular demand, with Max Bultman joining prospect writers Corey Pronman and Scott Wheeler to add a third perspective (and to limit Pronman and Wheeler’s ability to read off of each other’s lists). The order was drawn at random, with Pronman going first, Wheeler second and Bultman third as they picked the first round for their assigned teams. Here’s how it played out.

2024 nhl draft 2024 draft preview: the top 32 players
The NHL draft is just around the corner, and yet again, the Blue Jackets will be major players. After finishing last in the Eastern Conference and with the fourth worst record in the NHL this past season, Columbus earned the No. 4 overall pick in the upcoming draft when the lottery was held in May.

*********
The Blue Jackets now have the chance to add another major building block to the mix when the picks are made in Vegas’ Sphere on June 28-29. It will be the fourth straight season Columbus has picked in the top six and gives the Blue Jackets a seventh first-round pick in the last four drafts.

2024 mock drsft - alex medina
Every year prior to the NHL Draft, CalgaryFlames.com staff members take a shot at predicting the opening round. Like many drafts, there is a consensus on the first-overall pick, with Boston University's Macklin Celebrini landing in that coveted No. 1 spot. After that, Torie Peterson, Ryan Dittrick, Alex Medina and Chris Wahl's selections go in wildly different directions.

Top-5
No.1: San Jose, Macklin Celebrini, C, Boston University (NCAA)
The consensus first pick can do it all. Shoot, pass and even defend. Celebrini possesses a 200-foot game and oozes confidence with the puck which resulted in his Hobey Baker-winning season at Boston University. He’s the engine of any offence whether it was with Boston or on the international stage, there’s not much he can’t do already at such a young age.
No.2: Chicago, Artyom Levshunov, D, Michigan State
The defender is always part of the play at both ends of the rink. Levshunov plays with a high motor, smothering attackers to strip the puck or kill it completely before rushing up ice and using his passing or strong shot to make ‘em pay.
No.3: Anaheim, Zayne Parekh, D, Saginaw (OHL)
33 goals and 96 points by a defenceman. Disgusting. Parekh is a dynamic offensive defenceman who makes the game come to him and creates breaks in coverage to then attack with ease.
No.4: Columbus, Ivan Demidov, RW, SKA St. Petersburg
Demidov is a walking highlight reel with the ability to make something special happen whenever the puck is on his stick. There’s a sense of blink-and-you-might-miss-it-magic with his knack for pulling off multiple dekes to break through into the zone.
No.5: Montreal, Cayden Lindstrom, C, Medicine Hat (WHL)
Size, skating, skill, the ultimate power forward. Despite only appearing in 32 games, Lindstrom dominated the ‘Dub using his skating to create scoring chances with his bread and butter being his shot.

ranking the top prospects for the 2024 NHL draft
NHL draft week is officially upon us. The Stanley Cup was awarded Monday night after one of the greatest Finals in decades. The attention turns away from the game's brightest stars, away from the silver trophy and toward players who teams hope can be part of their Stanley Cup success in the future. For the San Jose Sharks, a franchise cornerstone awaits. For the other 31 teams, a plethora of talented forwards and impactful defensemen.

final mock 2024 nhl draft: intrigue after 1st 3 picks
The 16 teams that missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs took part in the NHL Draft Lottery on May 7, with the Sharks winning the No. 1 pick and the Blackhawks No. 2. The remaining teams were ordered based on the regular-season NHL standings. The most intriguing moment of the 2024 NHL Draft could come when the Columbus Blue Jackets go on the clock with the No. 4 pick. Blue Jackets selection at No. 4 unclear after Celebrini, Levshunov, Silayev go off board.

**********
The 12 teams that lost in the first two rounds of the playoffs were slotted into picks 17-28. Teams that did not win their division were placed in inverse order of regular-season standings points, followed by the one division winner that lost, the Vancouver Canucks. The No. 29 pick went to the Dallas Stars, the team that lost in the conference finals with the fewest regular-season points, and No. 30 went to the New York Rangers, the other team that lost in the conference finals. No. 31 goes to the team that lost in the Stanley Cup Final, but the Edmonton Oilers traded the pick to the Ducks for forwards Adam Henrique and Sam Carrick on March 6. The Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers receive No. 32, but that selection belongs to the Philadelphia Flyers from the trade for forward Claude Giroux on March 19, 2022.

Sharks trade for No. 11 pick, also acquire Carl Grundstrom
Getting Grundstrom, who scored eight goals and 12 points in an injury-riddled season that saw him play 50 games, gives the Sharks a winger who could benefit from more playing time.

**********
Finishing with the NHL's worst record saw the Sharks have the strongest odds to win the NHL draft lottery. The franchise won the lottery for the first time in their history
