3D or not 3D?

I fucking hate 3D. I have Stereopsis so 3D is a no-go for me.
More and more movies are pure 3D so I end up downloading them, which is perfectly legal in HOlland.. :)

Depends on the movie.

Some movies it looks like to me the 3D was poorly thought out and stuck in there as an option to charge higher admission prices - example the not too long ago Puss 'n Boots animated film starring Antonio Banderas.

Some movies - example the current Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter - it is obvious in the 2D viewing that special effects in 3D were designed to make the axe interesting or worth looking at and without the special effects the axe is pretty stupid.

Right now I prefer Imax because of the picture and sound quality over anything in 3D. However, if it is in 3D and in Imax too, I'll watch it.

it 'Depends' for me too (tee hee)

animated/CGI films, 3D is OK

real movies, it doesn't work so well, and gets annoying as you can't focus well on the background

Mostly I say no, but I saw Prometheus in 3d by accident (wasn't paying attention when I bought the tickets) and I could see the appeal. However, it would have to be a very specific type of movie for me to spend the scratch.

Was Prometheus better in 3D? I should have loved that movie but it just seemed sort of lacking. Maybe I needed Ripley.

It's been ages since I went to the movies, I prefer watching DVDs at home, so no 3D for me. Usually, I don't miss the effects, other than being annoyed that now and then, the scenery will become partly blurry (don't even know if that is due to the 3d technology or something else, though).

It was badly written. The effects were good but the repeated out pf character moments and bits of plain shit writing spoiled it for me. In contrast I watched Aliens agin the other night. Either it or the original I could watch over and over, they hold up that well. Can't imagine seeing Prometheus again.

I liked the question that it raised and the promise that there will be a great deal more to come between where this movie left off and Alien began. The special effects were good most of the time and some were spectacular.

I don't like nadly written stories no matter how many SFX they throw in. None of these characters was memorable or consistent. Writers have forgotten how to write.

Who needs to know how to write when the vast majority of moviegoers only care about how awesome it'll look in 3fuckingD?
