I've decided that I don't recommend 47 Ronin.
I wanted to like it because I like Keanu Reaves and haven't seen him in anything in awhile.
But, while the movie wasn't awful, it wasn't 3d worthy, it was dull in too many places, and took itself way too seriously when what it delivered was bad CGI.
Instead of killing his teacher, they killed his master. Very typical of this genre which makes the premise disappointing.
See it at the bargain matinee or wait for Netflix.

Want Samurai action? Go Afro Samurai anime or The Last Samurai or any one of the traditional Japanese films or a documentary.
47R fails to deliver in dialogue, plot, story, ambiance, action, characters, choreography, and visuals.
Japense lore has lovely art and landscape and architecture and none of it is really displayed. There's no pretty moments in the film.
The one thing it had going for it was brief one-liner comedy moments. Particularly the fat Samurai has three or four quality chuckle scenes.
It was a shit Blend of Constantine & The Last Samurai. It's a shame, because the mythos for the legitimate 47 Ronin is quite fantastic.

The Last Samurai was excellent.
I love Keanue Reeves. It was like he was poised for action. He had a few action scenes. It was just too obvious it was him against the cgi. Reminds me of what went so horribly wrong with the Last Airbender movie. The actors were all dressed up, the scene was set, but the script kind of sucked.
The witch girl was good. She added a fair amount of evil.
Fat guy's jokes were okay. Wouldn't have been funny if he were thin.
Maybe there will be a remake in five years or so and it will be good.
