A Mundane "Dilemma"...

I've got a sort of cool-looking retro motorcycle helmet. But I bought it before reading up about visibility. So I decided to brighten up my black helmet to make me more visible to motorists. I gave it orange and white racing stripes that matched my jacket and I found some retro motorcycle racing stickers to put on the sides. Later I added an American flag just above the DOT sticker in the back.

So here's the dilemma: I ride a Honda GB500. It's a Japanese bike from 1990 that was made to look like a classic British cafe racer. So I was thinking it would be cool to get smaller British and Japanese flags to put next to the American one.

But the modern Japanese flag sucks. It would be cool to have the retro "rising sun" flag from WWII. The problem is, that is the flag of an enemy. If I were to wear that flag, I might as well put a Nazi swastika on the helmet while I'm at it.

Bah. Nothing much going on. Just avoiding doing productive work. I was reading about Mitsubishi Heavy Industries while doing some research and my mind got to wandering. I used to own a '97 Dodge Avenger. Bought it because it was a sporty American-made car. Imagine my surprise and disappointment to find there were more Mitsubishi diamonds on the fucker than Chrysler diamonds. Turns out the Avenger was basically a stretched Mitsubishi Eclipse. Still, I did love that car...

The Kyokujitsu-ki (rayed sun disk) is still in use as the Navel ensign of Japan, so yes it was their flag back in WWII, but as an ally today it's not necessarily the flag of the "enemy". It's all in your point of view...

Good to know. Now if I ever encounter a Japanese naval vessel on the high seas, I won't think it's some crazy nip who doesn't believe the war is over.
