Deportation May Be Demjanjuk's Fate
He didn't turn out to be the notorious concentration camp guard known as Ivan the Terrible, but that doesn't mean he was a nice man. In 2002, John Demjanjuk, who lives in a Cleveland suburb, was stripped of U.S. citizenship after a judge ruled that the retired autoworker was a guard at Nazi camps.
Last week, an immigration judge ruled that Demjanjuk must be deported to his native Ukraine. He has 30 days to appeal. His lawyer says sending him back to Ukraine would be like tossing him "into a shark tank," but Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the Simon Wiesenthal Center disagrees: "No one should confuse anything happening to John Demjanjuk as anything but justice."
