Really, if you can afford to spend up big on video games, plasma tellies, plumbed in fridges, late model cars every couple of years and lots more, then surely you can afford to buy insurance. The same as if you can afford to be covered in tattoos and piercings and buy 'designer' outfits and smoke and drink, then you can afford insurance. It's all about priorities. I know I'd rather pay the $1000 or so a year on insurance than have to fork out repayments on my $400k mortgage for a house I don't have anymore (plus pay for alternative accommodation in the meantime), or have to furnish my property and clothe my family out of my own pocket in one hit.
