Awhile ago, I made some simple preparations.
If society collapsed, I had a plan. You can distill just about anything, and people will always want alcohol...high quality alcohol. So I built a condenser and practiced a few times making "brandy", and you know I could get things pretty high "proof" and that didn't taste too awful. So if it all falls apart, I figure I'll brew alcohol and use it to barter for whatever else I needed. It's a skill that will serve me when the rest collapses, is reasonably portable, and less work than farming. Low-tech. Simple. Barter system. Do I need more than that?
Now don't get me wrong, I work in high tech. I've got a 401k, a plan for my son's collage, and look forward to all of the luxuries of living in the USA with all of it's bad food and electronics. However, I really wonder...
The government is too large. The debt is too great. The "Reset" button will be pressed sooner or later. And when that happens....mmmm...I'm ready to chuck the cell phone and the computer and set up my harem/commune with it's distillery (and maybe a limited medical facility if I can hire in a few MD's or nurses) in the hills. Sometimes I think about doing this BEFORE the "collapse". Once it all hits the fan my facility will be too useful to let go, so others can defend it while I run it.
As a registered Libertarian, I do wonder what my government is really doing in return for my tax dollars...or how long it will last.
Does that make me a Luddite?
