Amazing Spiderman

Forever Empress E
Was going to see Magic Mike but Amazing Spiderman was about to start and it was an hour and a half before Magic Mike started, so, saw Amazing Spiderman instead.

This is a reboot. The last bunch of Spiderman movies weren't bad but the cgi for Spiderman swinging around the city was awful.

I'd not been interested in seeing this reboot so it was a nice surprise to see some of my favorite actors - Martin Sheen and Sally Fields - in major roles. The girl that plays Gwynne I've seen elsewhere and she is a likeable looking person even though parts of her characterization in this movie were not quite believable. That wasn't her fault - that is the way the story is written. The kid that plays Peter Parker is a bean pole with a shock of hair and wild, rubbery looking lips wriggling all over his face. Still, he grew on me and I like him.

The story started out kind of slow to me. It isn't like the beginning of the story is new. In a way it is good that the reboot didn't try to change that part of the lore of Peter Parker since it is so well established. Still, it made for a slow start to the movie.

Did not expect rocket science, a spy thriller, a musical, or anything with a complicated plot, so the complicated boy with a crush on a cute girl storyline was okay. Actually, it is the same story structure for every one of the Spiderman movies. Complicated boy in a complicated relationship with a cute girl and when he isn't chasing after said cute girl he battles humans who have become mutant monsters.

The bad guy was an okay bad guy. Some scenes were pretty frightening. The cgi for that character, while pretty good in a lot of ways, needs some work to bring down the cheese factor a bit.

What was good and worth seeing about this reboot? The swinging Spiderman is a vast improvement over the previous movies' cgi. In fact, most of the time it seemed like it was an actual person doing all those stunts.

Also, Stan Lee's cameo was nice.

Saw this movie in 2D and it looked great. On leaving the theater, I saw that it was available on Imax also. Although I won't pay the Imax dollar to see this movie again, I wouldn't have complained about paying the Imax dollar to see it the first time.

I saw the movie in 3D and it was okay, but kinda flat. Stan Lee's cameo was cute, Emma Stone from Zombieland was okay, the kid playing Peter Parker I think was better at the wisecracking than Tobey MaGuire, and the science part of his character was decent. But a lot of it was schlocky and just bad writing. The plot is every Spiderman movie ever made. I'd like to see one with Kraven the Hunter or the Sinister Six.

Interesting that there was no Daily Bugle in this one. No Jonah either.

I imagine there will be more movies to follow since the makers consider this a reboot. There is still time to bring in the professional photographer angle. Interesting that this new version, while it includes Parker's photographic interests, makes him out to be more of a science hound.

The comic spidey always was a science geek. There was some sort of little scene after the credits that involved Curt Connors being visited by a mystery figure talking about the parents, so I'm guessing Norman Osborn will make an appearance later. Or maybe Mysterio.

That is where I've lucked out on the comic originated super hero movies. I've not read them, or much of them, but I've been exposed enough to the characters to recognize the names and maybe a few intrinsic details. Therefore I don't have any big expectations going into the films.

Now I'm wishing I'd stayed until the end of the movie. Should have known as there are those nice little end pieces in the related films. The clip at the end of the Avengers was pretty awesome too.

I read all kinds of comics growing up, and I still keep tabs on the writers etc for nostalgia's sake, but I'm not particularly hung up on what fanboys call "Canon" so I can enjoy a story if it's well-written and disregard stupid shit like whether or not Spidey would actually use a Nikon or a Kodak, or the correct phrasing of 'with great power comes great responsibility'.

I still enjoyed the improved cgi for when Spiderman is swinging through the city.

Does Spiderman ever become part of a group of super heroes? Is Nick Fury ever going to pay him a visit?

Doubtful, because Avengers is already a hot property with a deep stable to draw from, and combining Spiderman to that mix would only dip into the same well. The franchise can stand on it's own, like the Xmen. In Marvel/Disney's current policy, they do share a universe so I wouldn't be surprised to see a cameo or two, but Spiderman will probably stay solo as far as movies are concerned.

It WOULD be kind of nice to see the FF show up though. They have a rich comic history and that franchise could use a lot of help. Maybe Daredevil or Punisher.

Don, I totally agree on the FF. Their latest two movies weren't as good as they could've been. Too mainstream to be good, IMO. For X-men, First Class was fairly decent at trying to capture the magic of the original Marvel team. Spiderman has always been troubled with straying from the books in order to make it more relatable to today's audience. I don't care so much for canon, but staying true to the characters and their drama should be paramount. Somehow, that doesn't seem to be a priority to film makers, because they're looking for more flash and show-y cgi so they can sell more action figures. My only major point of contention with the Raimi trilogy was that Parker invented web shooters. They blended the amazing spiderman with spiderman 2099, and it bothers me.

The Avengers finally did the group of superheroes properly. X-Men had a lot of characters and spent A LOT of film time introducing them, which seriously slows the beginning of all the movies. The Avengers took a different tack and introduced all the characters in their individual films. That gave the group's movie a lot of speed from the get go. X-Men had tried doing individual films for some of their characters by attempting the X-Men Origins franchise, but after Wolverine, they haven't really done much there.

Anyone else want to see a reboot of Spawn or a proper attempt at Cable's storyline?

I don't think Cable is doable unless they drop canon altogether. No way they can tie that mess into the XMen universe. The child of Cyclops and a demonchick doppleganger of phoenix who went forward in time and became an old guy in a future war then came back and fought and died four or five times then came back again as a bad guy...with the mutant power to make yer fucking head explode trying to follow the plot.

Yeah, I could care less about the story. I just wanna see a big dude with big, futuristic weapons and a glowing eye. I mean, he's probably one of the most badass-looking mutants in the Marvel universe.

So jack, Weasel, and eloisel are all the same pussified cunt drip?

As for the movie: I refuse to see it. Spider-Man is the worst character ever created by a Jew, and that's saying something considering all the shitty characters and movies shit out by Woody Allen alone. What a one-note, faggoty piece of shit Peter Parker is. "Wah! Wah! My uncle died! Wah! I'm a nerd! Wah! I have semi-cool super-powers but don't use them to get rich or bang chicks!"

What a fucking asshat.

No, Jack and Weasel are the same.

I'm something else entirely. I'd play with you but I'm tired. Maybe later. Do I know you in a different life or shall we start off fresh?

Sorry Wheeze, Weasel isnt me. Much as I'd enjoy taking credit for it, it's actually a main. Why are you so easily baited by obvious trolls? I dont get it? You're so smart and then some stupid shit like this and you get sucked in.

You're better than that imo.

Well, I was hoping it was a certain someone come back to play with us for awhile. Guess it isn't them.

So, you're telling me Weasel is a main dedicated to me? LOL. That's funny.

Poor "punisher". A dual of a failed comic book series, no less.

Fuck off, retard.

From Wiki:

The Punisher is a vigilante who employs murder, kidnapping, extortion, coercion, threats of violence, and torture in his war on crime. Driven by the deaths of his wife and two children, who were killed by the mob when they witnessed a gangland execution in New York City's Central Park, the Punisher wages a one-man war on the mob and all criminals in general by using all manner of conventional war weaponry.[1] His family's killers were the first to be slain.[2] A war veteran, Frank Castle is a master of martial arts, stealth tactics, guerrilla warfare, and a wide variety of weapons.

He first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #129, a true collector's item.
