Any golfers use hybrids yet?

Big Dick McGee

If you don't know, now ya know
I'm a pretty decent golfer, but I still struggle with my 3- and 4-irons. If I hit my 3-Iron perfectly I get get a nice, high trajectory and about 175 yards; however, any type of mis-hit gives me a screaming line drive that goes 140, tops. My irons are very forgiving, but long irons still bedevil me.

Anyway, I keep hearing good things about hybrids, and I was thinking of buying a hybrid to replace my 3-Iron. My preffered clubmaker, Thomas Golf[/i] sells a hybrid with a custom fitting and graphite shaft for $74, including shipping and a nice headcover. Cleveland's HALO is $185 by comparison.

So, am I wasting my money? I get the feeling I am wasting my time posting this here, but it's the only board I frequently post at, and I know there are one or two golfers out there.

Thanks.

A hybrid will probably help your game. You will get more height and control. Plus they are superior from the rough.

Do you carry a 1-Iron?

No, I don't carry a 1-iron. They're pretty hard to find these days, and I am decent with a driver. But when I mis-hit my driver and have anything more than 150 to the pin, I have to hit a precise 3- or 4-Iron to have any prayer of reaching the green. So I usually hit a 5-Iron and then try to chip close to the pin in that case.

I will probably order the hybrid, I figure for $74 I can't go wrong, and I have heard they're very good from the rough.

Well, Menty, I ordered the hybrid yesterday. You can take a look at it here: Thomas Golf. I should get it by Friday, just in time for this weekend's golfing. Of course I'll try it on the range first. I'll let you know how I like it, but I absolutely LOVE my Thomas Golf irons.
