Yesterday, I got a Vizio 37 inch LCD flatscreen, and a sony five disk all-in-one home theater system.

When I got it home and assembled it, I was shocked to find out there is no audio out, from the DVD/Home theater, to the TV. All audio output is from the home theater speakers.

This is problematic to me for several reason. One, I work mostly at night and watch DVD movies when I'm off, mostly keeping the same schedule. I don't want to blast my neighbors out of their beds. Second, I'm having trouble hearing dialoge, I have the sound turned down so low so I don't piss my neighbors off.

So, what are my options? I have a second "composite video out" set of jacks in the back of the TV. I could move the five-disk from downstairs upstairs, but that seems excessive. (or maybe not - I could watch HD porn for days on end without even getting out of bed). I'd prefer to rig it so I can turn off the home theater speakers, and hear sound out of the normal TV speakers.

Oh, and somehow, I'm only getting mono sound out of the satillite reciever. Gotta figure out how to get stereo sound out, but I think I've got that figured out - use the S-Video jack and red/white jacks on the right side of the set, once I get it mounted where I want it.

Or, conversely, is there a site out there where you can punch in what you got in terms of equipment, and it tells you how to hook it up?
 
So you need an audio out from the DVD player but there is none? Is there a headphone out?

One option would be inserting a power amp in the speaker signal path. Most power amps have an audio out and speaker wire jacks in...

And be patient. Sheesh.
 
My dad and I discussed something like that. He's got this RF transmitter thing so he can listen to tapes in his new truck, that doesn't have a tape player. But we were unsure how to hook it into the red/white audio jacks.

Speaker signal path would be the thing, though. I've got a traditional wire speaker set up, plug the wires into the back of the thing. Unless its a gaget I'm not familar with, which is entirely possible.

And I am patient. I'm just saying, Menty would have known, he knows everything electronic.
 
That's true. Let me see if I can't find something that will do it. The only thing is that if there isn't a single audio out jack other than the speaker wire outs, then your options for getting that audio signal to another device are pretty limited. That's what I don't like about those DVD player-amplifier-speaker sets.. I've got one with the same problem... all insies, no outsies.
 
And you have no Digital Coaxial Out?

Hmm... Can you tell me the model of the Theatre System, Rob.
 
Well, RobL, according to the manuals on the Sony website you have no audio outs on your theater system. You have one audio in, but no outs.

So, your options for getting audio to another source are super limited. You'll basically have to make due, or buy an expensive speaker out to RCA type converter thing.
 
I think plan "A" is going to work out.

Bring the five disk DVD player from downstairs, and hook it into the TV. I have to look at the TV again, but there might be audio out jacks on it. I can just hook up the audio out jacks from the TV to the home theater, and then get home theater sound from the normal 5-disk DVD player, too. I think.

If not, oh well. I'll still have a ten-disk capacity.
 
Audio-out jacks from the TV aren't working, for whatever reason. I think that there must be some sort of security thing or something prohibiting them from playing sound from the old DVD to the new one.

But other than that, problem is solved. TV is mounted, both players are hooked up, and I'm starting to think that putting the subwoofer under my bed isn't the best idea.
