I purchased an iPod shuffle from Amazon. I was trying to charge it, and update my iTunes, and shit. I've just found out that it wasn't working because I need to upgrade my OS to 10.5.6. I currently have 10.4.11, which is plenty for my needs.

Cost of upgrade? $198. Cost of shuffle? $40.

Damn. I think I'll give it away as a gift or somethin'. I was really looking forward to this purchase--first new iPod in 8 years.

You can get earlier versions of iTunes that will work if you look around the net. I hear there might be some porn on the net, look for that, too.

Although you might still have to do the initial set-up on the computer of someone who does have an up-to-date version.

Alternatively, if you have an old install of Windows XP anywhere, that runs the most recent iTunes just fine!
