Beethoven thread

Beethoven, the musical obsession of our friend Alex in A Clockwork Orange.

The master who didn't churn out symphonies left and right like Haydn and Mozart, but instead set the bar very high for subsequent composers with his 9.5 symphonies (a true pity he never was able to complete his 10th).

One of the first composers who's music had a true dark and dramatic edge to it, paving the way for the likes of Wagner and Gliere.

And now, I'm off to listen to the first movement of the 5th, the entire 6th, the second movement of the 7th, and the second and fourth movements of the 9th Symphonies.
 
The stuff that Bix is chatting about is totally wonderfully altered music. Transcends the charts they are written on.

Beethoven was a genius, it's a shame freaks like Wagner had to be inspired by such :bigass:

It's a must buy/download for every fan of Beethoven who is keen on musicals/rock operas.
 
I like trans siberia. I have some recording of theirs somewhere buried in the collection.
 
I'm not really fond of his symphonies. Like Wagner's operas they are a bit hard to digest. I prefer the lighter and more playful sonatas.
But being a fan of Renaissance and early Baroque music I am propably a little biased.

There's nothing wrong with that, IMO. Sometimes the thick, dense music is too much.

I went to a TSO concert-it was quite awesome!

Wagner's music isn't bad-- it's actually quite good.
Wagner himself though... yeah, freak.
