Best wireless router

I have a cable internet connection at home, and I've decided to move my computer from the office/baby room to our downstairs family room. The cable connection comes right through the wall to the upstairs office, and will be a pain in the ass to get re-connected downstairs.

Can anyone recommend a reliable wireless router that won't break the bank? How are routers with service interruptions? I'd hate to be downloading something only to have my connection go poof.

Oh, and one more thing, I need one that's easily commercially available, you know like at Best Buy, Circuit City, or CompUSA.

I dunno about the best one.

Getting interrupted when you're downloading something can be a bitch, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem if it's just through a floor.

Go with Linksys. About four or five months back, I picked up one of their Compact Wireless-G routers and it's worked perfectly, although you might not want to go with a compact model if you've got a floor to push the signal through.

I have two routers, which eliminates dial up and allows for about 3.0 kbps. I use Verizon for the broadband and that comes in off the wall jack via a WESTELL 337W. Into that is side plugged into the computer a VoIP device from LinkSyS that lets me access Vonage.

Ive got a 2.5 Athlon whatever the fuck they call it, with 2g ram and1g video ram, so its pretty fast, I can dl a gig every 14 seconds or so.

Either Linksys, D-Link, or Netgear have all treated me well.

Go for one of the 108MBit/s routers... even if you don't have a 108MBit/s device on your computer, the technology that allows the router to get to that speed also expands the range and strength of the signal. Backward compatible to the 54 and 11MBit/s speeds, you'll get a range up to 300ft.

Check if your motherboard supports gigabit network transfers.

Gigabit ethernet is cool, but you gotta be hardwired to take advantage. I need me a gigabit ethernet switch, but I've yet to see somethin' like a four port gigabit ethernet w/wireless router. That would be badass.
