Bizarro Symantec Behavior

Sredni Vashtar

the beautiful
Anyone ever heard of a virus that uses Symantec to send spam emails? Something like it has rendered my laptop virtually useless for internet browsing. Everything works fine until the moment I hook it up to DSL: It starts filling up the screen with message windows of sent or almost-sent emails. The addresses are usually of a series (jackoff1, jackoff1a, jackoff1ab, etc.), with subjects like "lose weight fast" or "free credit check", so it can't be some Symantec function gone awry all on it's own.

I'm only about 15 years behind the curve on this shit.

I hate Norton antivirus.. it's like a fucking virus itself.

Can't you reformat your laptop?

Yeah, I'm getting rid of it, once I consult some IT friends to see what would be an effective substitute.

Was just curious to see what all y'all thought and if anyone had encountered the same thing.

I just reformatted my desk top, and I'm gonna use some free av just haven't decided what to use yet.

Does anyone use Panda platinum or whatever their free stuff is called?

There are plenty of spammer viruses out there, so the problem isn't uncommon at all. The problem is you could probably spend hours routing them out of the machine and still not get everything. I'd just format the thing and be done with it.

Yep. Format it, download AVG from another computer, install AVG on your computer, post-format, before you ever launch your web browser.
