British Forces Turn Over Control of Basra

The Brits just pulled out. We turned over control of Basra Palace tonight and left under cover of darkness.


Thus ends four years of holding Basra. It's the Iraqi Military's issue now.


Not that any of us think they can handle it but there is no third option.

This is good news. The Brits accomplished their mission in the region. They stabilized things and got Iraqis trained to govern the area themselves.

They basically used the same playbook that the Marines are using in Anbar right now (and are getting good results there too).
