CAITLIN CLARK

it was a good day: ice cube's big3 extends $5m offer to catlin clark
ESPN also reached out to the WNBA and the league's players' union on whether Clark playing in another league would be allowed under the collective bargaining agreement. The league has prioritization rules in its CBA, which can affect players who participate in overseas leagues. But it remains to be seen whether those would prevent Clark's Big3 participation.

catlin clark helps wnba shatter draft viewership record
Viewership peaked at 3.09 million, ESPN said in a release Tuesday. The audience was more than four times as many viewers when compared to the 2023 draft, which drew 572,000. The previous draft record was 601,000 in 2004, when UConn's Diana Taurasi went No. 1 overall. Monday's viewership was the highest for any WNBA telecast since 2000, when NBC averaged 2.74 million viewers for a Memorial Day contest between the New York Liberty and now-defunct Houston Comets.

Deal puts some Caitlin Clark, Fever games on free TV

Indianapolis fans with a case of Catlin Clark fever can catch 17 Indiana Fever games for free on local television channels this season. The WNBA franchise struck a deal earlier this week with Tegna to broadcast those contests on the region's NBC (WTHR) and MeTV (WALV) affiliates. The WNBA announced earlier this month that 36 of Indiana's 40 games will be aired by the league's national broadcast and streaming partners: 13 games on NBA TV; eight on ABC, ESPN and ESPN2; eight on ION; four on Prime Video; two on the CBS Television Network; and one on the CBS Sports Network. The Fever selected Clark with the No. 1 pick in this month's WNBA draft. The former Iowa point guard became the all-time leading scorer in Division I basketball (women or men) this past season. The WNBA regular season tips off May 14 and runs through Sept. 19.

Caitlin Clark set to sign new 8-year deal with Nike, reports say

Catlin Clark appears to be on the cusp of setting another record. The most prolific scorer in NCAA Division I history and the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft will continue her association with Nike by signing a $28 million contract that spans eight years and includes a signature shoe. The Wall Street Journal and The Athletic reported the pending deal, citing unnamed people familiar with the negotiations between the sportswear giant and Clark's agents. Excel Sports Management, which represents Clark, and Nike did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Associated Press. Clark's initial name, image and likeness deal, signed in 2022, expired at the end of the 2023-24 college season. The new deal would be the richest sponsorship contract for a women's basketball player.

Caitlin Clark impresses in WNBA debut: 'A lot to be proud of'

In front of a sold-out crowd of 6,251 at UT Arlington's College Park Center, 2024 No. 1 pick Catlin Clark made her WNBA preseason debut Friday evening, scoring 21 points in the Indiana Fever's 79-76 loss to the Dallas Wings. The NCAA's all-time leading scorer scored 11 of Indiana's first 19 points before finishing with 16 in the first half, highlighted by a step-back 3-pointer against veteran Natasha Howard. Clark went scoreless in the third quarter and sat on the bench for much of the frame after picking up her third and fourth fouls in quick succession. Clark's 21 points (6-for-15 shooting, 5-for-13 from 3) tied for the game high with Dallas rookie Jaelyn Brown, and she also had 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 5 turnovers. NaLyssa Smith added 20 points for the Fever.

Despite being from the visiting team, Clark received a thunderous cheer as she was introduced as part of the Fever's starting five, as did fellow former No. 1 pick Boston. The crowd, while mostly pro-Wings, cheered plenty for Clark, especially as she hit four of her eight 3-point attempts in the first half, but stayed engaged as the teams traded the lead seven times and saw nine ties. The Fever are hoping Clark and the rest of their young core, which includes Boston and Smith, the 2022 No. 2 pick, will lift the franchise to its first postseason berth since 2016, which was WNBA great Tamika Catchings' final season before her retirement.

Caitlin clark, fever embrace wnba's approval of charter flights
"I'm thankful at whatever point that happens, that would be great for us. It will make recovery easier, it will make travel easier," Clark said. "It just makes life a lot easier for a lot of people, but also it's just something a lot of people have deserved for years and years." In addition to the WNBA's improved travel accommodations, Clark and the Fever will enjoy increased screen time for the upcoming season.

13K-plus watch Caitlin Clark win preseason home Fever debut

Player introductions at a WNBA preseason game do not typically elicit thunderous cheers from the assembled crowd. But nothing about the home-court debut of Indiana Fever rookie and No. 1 overall draft pick Catlin Clark can be considered typical. Clark, the former University of Iowa phenom who has taken the sports world by storm, made her first appearance at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Thursday night and received exactly the kind of reception one would expect given the interest she has generated around the country. From the many fans donning No. 22 jerseys (both from Iowa and the Fever) to the rousing cheers the crowd produced each time Clark scored or reentered the game, the atmosphere in the building suggested this was a meaningful game against the Atlanta Dream, even if it didn't count in the standings. Clark had a tough shooting night, finishing 4-of-12 from the field and 2-of-9 on 3s. She scored 12 points with 8 rebounds and 6 assists while facing physical defense and, at times, double-teams.

wnba 2024 rookie tracker
The 2024 WNBA season is off and running for one of the most anticipated rookie classes in league history. But the rookie class is loaded with potential future stars.

Caitlin Clark signs multiyear endorsement deal with Wilson

Catlin Clark has another big endorsement deal on the way. The 2024 No. 1 WNBA draft pick and NCAA Division I basketball's all-time leading scorer has signed a multiyear partnership with Wilson that will include a signature basketball collection, the company announced Tuesday. According to Boardroom, the only other athlete who has developed a signature collection with Wilson is Michael Jordan. Since Clark burst onto the national scene as a superstar in the college ranks, she has garnered deals with Nike, Gatorade, State Farm and more. Clark and the Indiana Fever are 0-4 to start the WNBA season and have a chance to pick up their first win of the year Wednesday at Seattle.

How has Caitlin Clark played so far in WNBA rookie season?

Catlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are four games into the 2024 WNBA season, and through four losses -- all against semifinalists from last year's playoffs -- the product has been a mixed bag. The Fever dropped their first two games, against the Connecticut Sun and the New York Liberty, by a combined 57 points, the largest point deficit in WNBA history for a team through its initial pair of games. Clark scored 20 points in her debut but also struggled with foul trouble and had 10 turnovers. In her second game, she was held to single-digit scoring for the first time since her freshman year of college, as Indiana fell by 36. The Fever are 0-4 -- their fourth such start in franchise history and first since 2021 -- but they made a statement Monday that more likely than not they won't be bottom-feeders for long.

Caitlin Clark trying to stay 'positive' as Fever fall to 0-5

After her Indiana Fever lost 85-83 to the Seattle Storm on Wednesday to fall to 0-5 this season, No. 1 overall pick Catlin Clark said she's "trying to be as positive as possible" about the progress Indiana has made despite it not yet translating into the win column. Following double-digit losses in the Fever's first three games, this was the second consecutive one they had an opportunity to win down the stretch. A wild final minute saw Clark commit a turnover -- just her second of the night after averaging 6.5 in the season's first four games -- and have a 3-pointer blocked, though she thought she was fouled.

WNBA All-Star 2024: Snubs, top questions after roster named

Standout rookies Catlin Clark and Angel Reese are headed to Phoenix -- as teammates. That's a big takeaway from Tuesday's 2024 WNBA All-Star roster announcement. Clark, the Indiana Fever guard who was April's No. 1 draft pick, and Reese, the Chicago Sky forward who has a WNBA-record 11 straight double-doubles -- will represent Team WNBA when it faces Team USA in the league's All-Star Game in Phoenix on July 20 (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC). Clark and Reese, both vying for rookie of the year, have brought a lot of energy to their teams and the WNBA, but have been somewhat reluctant adversaries since the 2023 NCAA final. Both downplay the other as a big rival, but their fan bases have done an endless amount of talking about them. Now, they will be on the same side, which has "breaking the Internet" potential on gameday. When Team WNBA faced Team USA in the 2021 All-Star Game before the Tokyo Olympics, the WNBA stars beat the Olympians 93-85, led by MVP Arike Ogunbowale. The Dallas Wings guard is back for Team WNBA this year, too.

Ranking 2024 WNBA rookies: Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, more

A lot can happen over the course of a month in the WNBA. Chicago Sky rookie Angela Reese has gone on a historic double-double streak. The Indiana Fever's Catlin Clark became the WNBA's first rookie to record a triple-double. And Cameron Brink, who was No. 1 the last time we ranked the WNBA rookies, was lost for the season to a torn ACL after only 15 games.
