I'm a couple few miles from the fire in Moreno Valley. The air was looking pretty stank but has since cleared, It's not windy anymore, they should have that sum'bitch contained by now.
I'm a couple of miles from the Burbank fire, the Topanga fire is much further, but the ash travels my way. It was bad here last week, not so bad now. The winds are down here too, that will help.
My sympathies to those who lost everything, but thats what happens when you build in a fire-prone area. Same goes for flood plains, cliffs, cities below sea-level, etc, etc.
Actually, the people near the San Bernardino mountains kind of got screwed by your friendly neighborhood tree huggers. Between the refusal of the county to thin out the forrest and the bark beetle the entire mountain became a tinder box, it wasn't the resident's fault.
You're right, there is no 'safe' place to live, but some are more safe than others. Yes, there are people, for whatever reason, have no other option than to live where there is a high risk of natural disaster.
I'm in agreement with Laker_Girl as to the reason for the Ca. wildfires. Bad forestry practices, coupled with treehuggers who go to court to challenge anyone who wants to cut down a tree, are the only reason why the Ca. fires get so out of control.
I just happen to believe that people are a product of the choices they make in life. If I choose to live behind a 100 year old levee next to a river that floods frequently, Im not going to be looking for handouts when my house floats away.
It's just hard for me to feel sorry for some millionaire who loses everything when his oceanside mansion built on a cliff falls into the sea.
PS - Thanks. Its nice to get intelligent (even if they are contradictory) replies. At my old forum, the best I could expect was a "STFU nOOB!!"
