Can a movie star make too many movies?

All In With The Nuts
At what point does a legendary star (DeNiro, Hoffman, etc.) star diluting their own legacy by churning out film after film, after already having created several iconic roles? Can the public only process a certain number of iconic roles for a certain actor?

Pop culture has become so disposable today...is there such a thing as legend fatigue? When an actor wins all the major "life achievement" awards there are to win, should they just stop? Is it better for their careers if they die younger?

Eh?

Depends how good an actor and they are how good the movies are, I suppose? If they're actually pretty limited (JOHNNY DEPP) they end up being exposed and then we can say "SEE, I KNEW HE WAS NEVER THAT GOOD IN THE FIRST PLACE EVEN WHEN EVERYONE LIKED HIM I'M SMART." Or if like you say if they just keep doing terrible movies (JOHNNY DEPP) we get sick of them and forget that they were ever in anything good...fuck Johnny Depp, basically.

But there seem to be some people no one gets sick of like umm, I don't know...I can't think of any examples. I'm sure there's some.

I guess with people like Denero and Hoffman, when you get to a certain age hollywood stops offering you the type of roles that win ocsars, so you can either not work, or work in shit.

And shit pays the bills.

Personally I don't think it takes anything away from the godfather or Marathon man to have them appear in shite like 2nd sequals to Meet the Fockkers, and such, the sad thing is that there is an entire generation of grown ups out there who have never seen any of the classics of the 70s.

I usually get sick of the terrible comedy actors like Adam Sandler, I don't even want to see a commercial about one of his movies, but the good actors being in shit movies doesn't really bother me. Probably because they get into a good movie now and then that makes up for it.

I was asking myself something similar about Kevin Hart the other day. I mean, how many movies can one guy be in over the course of a year. It's only March, and he's been in what, three different movies? The year isn't over yet... how many can he possibly be in?

I know him because he used to be on Chelsey Lately a lot. He's funny, but I'm sure most of the movies he's in suck.

I've no idea who he is either - woo!

For the record, Dennis Hoffman's been directing as well, so I guess any crap movies he's in pays for that.

I think even Johnny Depp could redeem himself if he played a part that didn't rely on a wig, eyeliner and a whimsical British accent as a crutch.
