Ok, the thing I don't get is this.

Why did they pick Picard, Beverley and Worf to go on a secret ops mission in the first place. They explain this away in the episode by saying that Picard has considerable knowledge of Theta Band emissions from his days on the StarGazer but come on. Bullshit couldn't they find special ops to go into a situation like this. Picard is the Captain of the Federation flagship and knocking on a bit. You don't throw him and fucking Beverly in a crack ops mission. Worf is there for the muscle of course but I'm sorry none of them should of been picked for that mission!

As for Jellico. Well, he comes on board the Enterprise to do a fucking job and is confronted with a bunch of children!

Wah, wah, I don't want to work all night doing this. Wah wah four shifts is too difficult to implement. Shut the fucking fuck up. He's your Captain carry out his goddamn fucking orders.

The way he treats Troi as well. Perfect IMO.

Sorry, haven't got time for a honeymoon with the crew and you should be in dress uniform you slut!

Jellico was well within his bounds at all times. He is the most solid and dare I say it realistic Captain Star Trek has ever had.

I'd watch a show with him in the chair in a minute. He was a great choice to take over the USS Daycare.

TNG writers had no damn clue how to represent the characters as military officers, yet they threw them in situations that required military officers constantly. Shit, practically any Stargate SG1 character would be better officer material than the TNG 7.

Jellico should have slapped Troi's tits and said "YOU SEE THAT's WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THEY LET WOMEN ON THE BRIDGe, WHOO!" and strutted away.

I admit I always get a kick out of Jellico. He is a highly competent officer and simply does not take crap from anyone. Not Gul Emek not William "I'm going to bitch like a girl in this episode" Riker.

The Enterprise crew really do step out of line with their constant moaning. It's the Federation flagship embroiled in a very volitile situation with an enemy that could trigger a war and they are whinning about not having their hands held by their CO.

Your captain asks you to switch to a four shift rotation?

Umm, guess what. You were just given an order. Carry it out no matter what. "Oh, it's going to be tough to implement though Captain." Suck it the hell up then and get to work and make sure those orders are carried out. They were working against a clock, Jellico simply did not have the luxury of time to become likable and buddy with the crew. He wanted his plan of action carried out and he wanted it done quickly and efficiently. No time for crying about it. Christ, they are proffessional officers in a military situation. Get to work.

Jellico was a different sort of captain, sure. He was a bit of a hardass, no doubt. But having the crew adapt to him and like him and his way of running things was not part of the agenda or even his concern. I'm pretty sure that if he had been in command of the Enterprise post crisis you may have found an easier going Jellico and a CO with a bit more incentive to chill out and give the crew a little more slack, say, on a lazy sunday during a survey mission. But the situation was not like this. Jellico did not need Riker and Troi dissagreeing with his command. Data seemed to be the only officer who carried out Jellicos orders without hesitation.

All in all I think Jellico was a fine captain and even a quite likable one. (scene with Geordi in the Shuttle) but he was in a difficult situation being thrown in as a replacment with a new crew AND head up a vital mission and deserved more respect from what ended up being the crew of the USS Daycare.

When Riker complained, Jellico should have just threatened to shut off the air.

Was Jellico really all THAT great? Remember the scene where he was negotiating with the cardies and Troi said he actually didn't have a clue what he was doing. Of course she could have been lying because he made her cover up her tits.
