Colin Kaepernick working out for Las Vegas Raiders on Wednesday, sources say

Colin Kaepernick, who last played professional football in 2016 -- the year he started kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice -- is scheduled to work out Wednesday for the Las Vegas Raiders, league sources told ESPN. It will mark Kaepernick's first workout with an NFL team since being exiled, and it will be the first time the former star quarterback visits with a team since he flew to Seattle to meet with the Seahawks in May 2017 before they passed on the opportunity to sign him.The NFL had said it encouraged teams to take a look at Kaepernick. But not only has Kaepernick not signed a contract with any team, he also has not received a workout until the one that now is planned for Wednesday. Mark Davis told ESPN's Paul Gutierrez in June 2029 that he would give his "blessing" if the Raiders' front office or coaches wanted to add Kaepernick.

Josh McDaniels on Colin Kaepernick workout: Derek Carr knows Las Vegas Raiders are his team

Las Vegas Raiders coach Josh McDaniels said Thursday he didn't feel the need to give quarterback Derek Car a heads-up that the team was taking a look at Colin Kaepernick. McDaniels, speaking after a Raiders organized team activity, otherwise revealed little about the first known workout the free-agent quarterback has had with an individual NFL team since he last played in 2016. Kaepernick, 34, worked out for the Raiders on Wednesday, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Carr, 31, signed a three-year, $121.5 million extension in May. The Raiders have three quarterbacks on their depth chart behind him: recent trade acquisition Jarrett Stidham, free-agent signing Nick Mullens and undrafted rookie Chase Garbers.

Sources: Colin Kaepernick's workout with Las Vegas Raiders 'positive,' but no deal imminent

Colin Kaepernick's arm strength and conditioning stood out in his workout with the Las Vegas Raiders, but no signing was imminent as of late Thursday night, sources told ESPN.The Raiders considered Kaepernick's workout a "positive," a source said.
Kaepernick recently threw to undrafted receivers for NFL scouts at halftime of Michigan's spring game, at the invitation of Jim Harbaugh, his former coach with the San Francisco 49ers. Another potential link to Kaepernick is Raiders offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi, who was a 49ers assistant from 2013 to 2016.

Derek Carr says Colin Kaepernick would fit in 'great' with Las Vegas Raiders

Quarterback Derek Carr on Tuesday endorsed the Raiders giving Colin Kaepernick a workout at the team facility two weeks ago and said, "I think he'd be great" in the locker room, should Las Vegas sign him. Kaepernick, who took a knee to protest police brutality and racial injustice during the pregame national anthem, has not played in the NFL since 2016, and the Raiders are the only team to have worked him out since. Carr said he has been familiar with Kaepernick since the two played in the Western Athletic Conference, with Fresno State and Nevada, respectively, in 2009. Kaepernick was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round (No. 36 overall) of the 2011 draft while Carr was taken by the Raiders in the second round (also No. 36 overall) three years later. The Raiders currently have four quarterbacks on their roster. Carr, Nick Mullens, Jarrett Stidham and Chase Garbers.

Warren Sapp claims Colin Kaepernick’s Raiders workout was a ‘disaster’

Sapp, a former All-Pro defensive tackle, who spent three of his 13 NFL seasons with the Raiders spoke about Kaepernick during an appearance on VladTV. “I heard it was a disaster. I heard one of the worst workouts ever,” the Hall of Famer said after the host mentioned they had heard Kaepernick's workout“was not that great.” Sapp couldn’t believe footage of the free-agent quarterback’s workout didn’t surface.“ I’m wondering how the hell this happened and the tape didn’t get out, right?” he said, adding that he doesn’t see Kaepernick making an NFL return. The Raiders gave Kaepernick a workout opportunity in May, amid a search for a backup behind Derek Carr. It was Kaepernick’s first workout with an NFL team since he split with the 49ers following the 2016 season. Kaepernick, now 34, knelt during the nation anthem that season to protest social injustice. Kaepernick hasn’t played an NFL game in six years, but has insisted he's ready to “take a team to a Super Bowl again.”
