Computer starting to run REALLY slow!

Unluckiest Charm in the Box
I posted this over at HardForums as well....

I dont know whats causing this, but I've run several Anti-virus programs and so far nothing has worked. I'm not sure if it even is a virus, but each day my system seems to run slower and slower. Often when I try to go from one screen to the next, the system will freeze up for anywhere from 30 sec to 1 min before completing the switch. I tried unplugging the computer completely, waiting 10 seconds, then plugging it back in again, and once it powers up, the same problems occur. Defragging it didnt seem to help much either!

Also, if I go to specific sites that has videos that must be clicked on in order to play, many of them will not. I click on them and my hour glass timer will appear for a few seconds, then stop (no video displayed).

Like WTF?

Have you opened your case up and cleaned out any dust from around your fans, RAM and heat sinks?

Also check to see if the RAM has walked slightly out of their connectors.

I found what was wrong (speedwise)

I had a sync program running in the background that I disabled. Now shes runs like lightning..

Only problem now is my video viewing ablilities. Some sites I go to have video links that work just fine when clicked on, while others display the message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" when clicked!

That was going to be my suggestion. Check your Task Manager to see what is straining your CPU. Sometimes programs fail to shut down correctly or run silently that don't need to be.

Switch to Safari, Chrome or Firefox. IE won't be worth using till 9's out; if it is, upgrade IE 8 to 9.

How much free space do you have on the hard disk that your OS is running off of?

I've noticed that if it gets too low one of the many side effects is being unable to play embedded videos on websites.

And you can backup your bookmarks if you need to reinstall.
