I want to smell dark matter
It's that thing again where the movies have good trailers but there's a chance they'll still turn out to be bad movies so you don't want to post a thread for each movie saying "MAYBE THIS WILL BE GOOD" but anyway...



This one looks good! It's a funny and fun trailer and the kid and Zachary Levi seem well cast. I will watch it next year probably!



This looks...okay? I mean I like how many fish there are in it but the CGI looks a bit unfinished. Not totally sold on Jason Momoa and Amber Heard's acting either. Could go either way.
 
DC's problem is that they don't have a deep bench of heroes that can be made "cool" in modern day film. So they attacked it two different ways here:

With Aquaman, they just threw everything out and built a new hero that they thought audiences would find "cool". I don't think they will succeed, because his name is still Aquaman and the best thing people remember about him is how Family Guy and Robot Chicken (and Entourage) made fun of him. "Why isn't he blond?" a million old people will say, and not much else.

With Shazam. it looks like DC decided that there is no way to make Captain Marvel (that's his real name, oops can't use that now) "cool", so they made him a goofball. So much for real fans of Shazam over the last 80 years. It would be one thing to make a camp movie where at least the characters take themselves seriously, like the 60s Batman TV show. But this weak, "yeah we know it's a goof too" approach means that they were never really sure if they should be making this movie in the first place. It's franchise filler.

I was a DC boy when it came to comics. so I'm extra sad and resentful at the current state of superhero movies, lol.
 
Yes, but what about Amber?

I'm not really familiar with Shazam/Captain Marvel but I don't know how it could be done where he isn't goofy, given the premise? It's a teenage boy who turns into an adult man superhero, so you've got an adult playing a kid and we all know from Tom Hanks in Big that that leads to goofy fun.

DC's problem is they should have had a solo Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg, Aquaman movies before Justice League, not after. DC needs to learn from the Marvel movie making model.

I was a DC boy when it came to comics also. Mostly Superman. Some Flash. I don't think I became a Marvel fan until the DC/Marvel comic crossover event.
 
Interested to see how they stretch "guy whose superpower is knowing the name of songs" into a two hour blockbuster.
 
Well they lost Affleck too and continue to make movies and tv shows about Batman related characters rather than Batman himself.

Can anyone decode what this means...

 
Losing Affleck is the best thing to happen. BAD CALL RIPLEY, IT WAS A BAD CALL.

I think Cavill was telling us that playing Superman no longer gives him a boner.
 
They released a five minute trailer for Aquaman for some reason.



I mean I guess the reason is to convince viewers that the movie will actually have cool stuff in it, and it does look visually impressive (I like sharks.) But still not convinced by Jason Momoa...
 
A five-minute trailer means only one thing: desperation. They must have some advance buzz that this is gonna be a bomb.

Not that I want it to be a bomb -- but I just don't get the direction they're going with this incarnation. If you have to throw everything out about the character and start from scratch, then you should just create a new character with a different name.
