Django Unchained

Django Unchained is definitely a Quentin Tarantino movie. As is to be expected, this movie is pretty brutal in parts. It is also quite funny in many parts. The story is interesting. The blood splatters. Love it when the bad guys get what they deserve.

The soundtrack was weird and fascinating. Loved the John Denver tune right there in the middle and the promenade at just the right moment.

Love it that Franco Nero who was Django in the old official Italian spaghetti Westerns named Django made a brief appearance in this newest movie of the same name. Yes, Franco Nero is older than dirt but he is still a sexy beast. He'll forever be Lancelot to me.

Samuel L. Jackson was stellar - as always.

Leonardo DiCaprio can't help himself - he is very, very, very good. There is one scene that made me a fan of his all over again - even though he is the bad guy in this movie.

Jamie Foxx was great. First movie I've seen him in that I didn't wish he'd put the silly crap aside and just play the piano. No - I haven't seen Ray.

Christopher Waltz was most excellent too. I hadn't heard of him before this movie but I will be looking for him now.

Don Johnson was a treat. Where the heck has he been?

The N word is used a great deal in this movie. It fit the time period but it is still rough hearing it said over and over again like that.

There is a lot of violence including a particularly gruesome scene where dogs tear a person apart.

The audience I was in was very mixed in age, gender, and ethnicity but I wouldn't take children to see this movie.

There are plot holes and some dubious historical facts but it is still an interesting story told very well. Then again, I've been a Tarantino fan since Kill Bill.

I was concerned about the length of this movie - nearly 3 hours. It turned out okay. Glad I get a small drink or I might have missed some of this movie and that wouldn't be good.

It sounds excellent but that length of time is too long for me even without a drink.

Remember the first time they showed Franco Nero in close-up in Camelot? Holy shit, those eyes. I saw him recently with his long time love whatsherface that played Guenevere and he still looks magnificent.

Looking forward to seeing this.

Christopher Waltz was most excellent too. I hadn't heard of him before this movie but I will be looking for him now.

The majority of movies he is in are German, not sure how commonly available those are in English, but check him out in Inglorious Basterds. His performance is stellar.

I liked Letters to Juliet. Love that Franco Nero and Vanessa Redgrave have this huge history together on and off screen and that they've wound up here at the end of their lives together and in love.

Inglorious Basterds is available for streaming from Amazon for $3. It is a Quentin Tarantino movie too. I'll watch it soon. Thanks!

Tarantino is too far up his own arse for my liking, he was good when he first started, when he actually knew how to edit a film, now he just lets scenes drag on and on far longer than necessary, and only trots out the action now and again, when that was the whole reason most people got into his films in the first place.

I liked in particular in this movie the raising of a central question that really should be addressed so this type of dark history is less likely to be repeated.

Action is great but I like some story to go with it.

The search and rescue was the plot device to get the characters into position to ask the question.

Yeah, but if Tarrentino had made star wars, the first half hour would be just Luke talking to Owen about blue milk, then a two second scene of Jawas burning, then another half hour of Han talking to Greedo, at the end of which they both shoot each other dead, and a stray bolt kills Chewie too.

Then another half hour continuous scene of Liea talking to the interogration droid about periods, at the end of which she would start to have one, ruining that white dress, followed by four frames of Alderan blowing up.

The last half hour would be General Doddona breifing the rebel pilots about the attack on the death star, where Biggs would be played by Samuel L Jackson, then it would just cut to a card saying "The plan worked" and the closing credits would roll over the music to car wash.

Shouldnt be too hard, since death proof was one of the worst films ever made, and ingloreous basterds was a major letdown.

I liked the first one, but the second one just dragged on and on with very little happening.

A few trims from the first and a lot of trims from the second would have made one much better film.

I love Kill Bill.

I love Kurt Russell. Loved that those girls kicked the crap out of him too because even though I love Kurt Russell he deserved getting the crap kicked out of him in that movie.

Did he not realise that while he was making it?

At least when Bill Cosby made a stinker of a movie he did his best to make sure the world never saw it.

Did I mention I have a thing for Kurt Russell? Believe so.

Number one infatuation was James Garner as Bret Maverick. Watched him ride up on his horse religiously from when I was barely 2 until just before I turned 7. Then Kurt Russell appeared. Still adore them both.
