Doctor Who 2008 Christmas Special

Loveable fuzzball!
I liked it for the most part, with the exception of the usual RTD's over the top ending. I guess everyone forgot about the walking robot terrorizing London afterwards.

I was a little disappointed. I think I expected something a more and the way Miss Hartigan as the Cyber King was dealt with was all a bit, well, simple.

But overall I enjoyed it and it tied up things nicely IMHO.

More ridiculous RTD crap.

I don't get it... the guy can write brilliant stuff when he wants. This one, like a lot of other eps, seems like he wrote it in an afternoon while watching TV.

We'll see how Steven Moffat handles things. With a black Doctor, this should prove interesting.

Strong rumor is Paterson Joseph. You may remember him as the whiny nigger in Bad Wolf and Parting of Ways who won "The Weakest Link" against Rose.

Apparently, the trend in western civilization these days is to give a nigger a chance so he can serve as an example to others.

Hmm, I'm not too fussed on Paterson Joseph. I mean, I'm sure he's a pretty good actor and all, but I'd like to see the next incarnation with a bit more versatility. P.J. seems to only do: brooding, moody, genius, brooding, moody, action hero from what I've seen.

Last I've read, nothing's in stone yet... he's just the top pick.

Pity... I was hoping for a woman this time. Joanna Lumley f'instance. ;)

Well, they could team him up again with Freema Agyeman or whatever her name is. She had about the same range of acting skills: smirky, stunned, smirky, stunned, sad, smirky, stunned, rinse, lather, repeat.

Yeah, I hate how in Doctor Who people seem to, en mass, find a way to "forget" or represses or deny (with convoluted explainations - "back-petal") these MAJOR events. Like anybody not with their head up their ass should be able to see that *something* is going on. Jesus Christ, the fucking planet was moved!!!

But in the Doctor Who spin off-shows like Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures have started to move away from that - finally. In one of this year's Sarah Jane episodes, when a guest charecter hears someone mention "aliens", he says "Oh, you mean like those Dalek things?" (refering to the last season finale of Doctor Who, of course) And what I have seen and heard of this next season/mini-series of Torchwood, they pretty much once and for all have given up on trying to hide who they are and what they do. Now it's just "We're Torchwood, we hunt aliens."

Well, then I wonder what they'll do with all that unused Retcon they probably have stockpiled...?

I think Jack's idea, with some prodding from Gwen, is to make TW a little more public and not so secretive.

Well, then I wonder what they'll do with all that unused Retcon they probably have stockpiled...?

Gangbang Gwen then feed it to her so she doesn't remember it.

I'm still pissed that they killed off the wrong two Torchwood characters!

In the original script, Ianto was supposed to die instead of Owen. I dunno why it changed, but I agree with you... Owen was ten times more interesting than Ianto (who's a whiny shit IMO).

I do miss Owen too, but Ianto also grew on me a LOT the second season, since they made him kinda funny and whitty (unlike his borig and very depressing "emo Lurch" persona from season one.)

Gwen and Tosh are the ones that I never really felt jelled into compelling characters. Most of the time, Gwen was just a complete simpering git. Tosh was okay, but just "humph" for me.

I would personally have liked to see Ianto and Owen kept around, and Gren and Tosh replaced with more interesting girls.

After last season's Who finale, it seemed to a lot of people (including me) that the end there outside the TARDIS with Jack and the gang, was an obvious lead in to having Mikey (yeay!) and Martha (eh, not so "yeay") join the tream. (After all, they are short one doctor, and one computer expert - perfect fit!) But I have heard that, at least for the 5-part mini that will air as "series 3", neither Mickey or Martha will be around.

And anyway, the lady who played Martha is off commited to another series now on another network (and good riddance I say, she really wasn't the greatest actress) but I imagine that Noel "Mickey" Clarke is free and probably looking for work, and heck, he even wrote one of series one's best episodes! ("Combat", or as I say "Alien Fight Club".) He would be a good addition to the show, I think. He can direct, write a script, and play an interesting part.

Eh, maybe next season?

the whole kids for slave labor angle was lame, but that rest was good to ok i guess
but i dont know, the christmas specials rarely seem as good to me as the long wait there is for them...

With no pictures of the giant robot, and no physical evidence, then all you have to ever say a giant robot stamped all over 1852 london is the word of a bunch of people stumbling out of pubs at midnight.

Yeah but still, an event that big, you think there'd be lots of stories and eyewitness accounts recorded. It would be remembered.
