Starship Coyote
Original Gangster!
When I first heard of it, I thought "ok, how hokey is that title." Got it tonight and just watched it.
Great stuff. Great stuff.
Even where it's campy...and Doctor Who is known for its campiness...there's always time for a quick joke to make you laugh.
Jackie Tyler: "Oh my God! I'm going to be killed by a Christmas tree!!!" One of the best lines in this episode, hands down.
The Doctor: "blah...blah...blah...why is there an orange in my pocket???!!!...blah...blah...blah..."
David Tennant, I predict, will have a successful run as the Doctor. He's funny, on the beat, and has a casual attitude that can flip to a serious tone in a heartbeat. The best Doctors are the ones who made you believe they came from an advanced civilization and were simply better than we could ever be. William Hartnell started it. Patrick Troughton pulled it off. Jon Pertwee had his good days, when he wasn't being annoying. Tom Baker redefined it. Peter Davison sucked at it. So did Colin Baker. Sylvester McCoy was just too weird for me. Paul McGann was never really given a chance, but had potential. Christopher Eccleston did it in a casual way. But Tennant has an underlying mania about him cloaked by an attitude that suggests Prozac.
Here's looking forward to the next season of Doctor Who. It's got a good future again.
