Empty forum for you to mold

Intriguing.

As grateful as I am for TK as a place to come to during this, I may need to look elsewhere. Through no fault of its own, TK has a culture that makes it an incomplete substitute (for me) for WF.

I have this board open in another window. I also have JAllen's Starscape open.

I had planned to use it to link troll operations with other boards. It's not active at the moment, and even if it is in the future, there's no reason why it can't have a piece set aside for whomever would like to take advantage of it.

Think of it as a direct democracy. If anyone's in the mood for an experiment.

Ugh. Tempting. But a lot of work. Gul? You come from the land of the Boston Tea Party. You interested?

I think thats a great offer you made the refugees.

They could elect a staff , pool up money for thier own domain name and host, pick out a theme and make banners and start a new site.

After cindybin.com had the plug pulled I put up a free site and it took off like crazy. The people donated money for a new site and http://cindysbeenbongin.com/ was born. Thats how Trollvalhalla was born too.

Just a reminder for all you trolls: The hidden part is meant to be neutral ground with no special leanings towards TK or any other board, nor meant to replace any home board you might have.

Cool jukebox, bad dog!

However...

"Knock Three Times" was sung by Tony Orlando and Dawn, *not* 3 Dog Night.

But, again, great feature! :D

OK. A couple quick stream-of-consciousness thoughts:

I know essentially nothing about administering a board. Is there anyone here that is up for the thankless task of flipping switches and installing hacks?

Some of the features I'd like to see is--of course--a fair selection of smilies, a gallery, avatar hosting, and probably an arcade. What would that entail. Oh. And rep is a must.

How flexible are permissions? Obviously you can have posters, mods, and probably administrators--all with different permissions. Can you have a "second class citizen"? I think duals are a time-honored tradition with us all, but they could complicate certain things I'm thinking of. Would there be a way, when a dual is IDed to allow him to remain, but restrict him from things like voting and rep?

Beyond that some quick notes:
Have an Embassy--but this will be The Grey Room/GFSHH. The forum for n00bs would be Ellis Island. If we can manage a smut forum, it would be the Blue Room (because vice is traditionally governed by "blue laws"). Maybe call the bitching and moaning forum the Courthouse. It would have a part for suggestions and idle bitching that could handle technical things, and a forum for moderator appeals--more on that below.

As far as governance, I'd be in favor of elections for all staff. In addition to a chief executive, there would be a cabinet--a handful of moderators and administrators to serve as an executive branch.

On a small board I don't see the need for a legislature--everything could be done with a general vote--but there would be a judicial. Have maybe a panel of judges that can't issue warnings or make actions, but will rule on the decisions of moderators. If a moderator call is appealed a judge would rule on it. If the plaintiff disagreed with the finding, he could appeal to the full court (although the "supreme" court could opt not to hear the appeal). These judges, unlike the Supremes, would serve elected terms.

There would have to be procedures for elections--maybe just have people in office until they are recalled. Maybe have term limits. If there are terms, for the election, someone would have to announce candidacy and have a (non-dual) second them. Then the valid candidates would go into a general election, with each (non-dual) poster having X number of votes to vote for candidates.

It is all pretty interesting. Almost interesting enough to make me consider it. Anyone else interested? (Particularly a technical person?)

(Of course there would NEED to be a constitution. But it would be fairly broad and free, and most rulings, when needed, would be based on common law.--which means the judges would also need to maintain a list of rulings.)

Shit. This sounds almost do-able. And I'd be tempted to try it, just to thumb my nose at the people at WF who so quickly shot it down.

Its not bad, you can make all the user levels and groups you want, its work.

Setting up an election is easy, just count vote post by members and dont use a software poll system.

I can have you a forum by morning if you guys want one..
