FACT: Weddings are a money pit

Laker_Girl

Mrs. Big Dick McGee
I seriously don't know how people can dump so much money on a one day event and not stay married forever. Just the fact that I'm going to pay nearly $6,000.00 for a beautiful facility and to feed 23 people chicken is enough to keep me working on my marriage for life.

That six grand doesn't include, my dress, the officiant, the photographer, the DJ, the cake, the tux, the flowers or special decorations. It is un-fucking-believable how much this thing costs.

My dad said I should get married at City Hall and have a $6,000.00 honeymoon...The man has a point.

i hear ya that was about the cost of mine too. All that and just so you can grow old and get in stupid agruments about shit that happened years ago! You'll see after the honeymoon.

Your father is a smart man.

Screw the free meal for the friends and family. Use the money to celebrate eachother, not the event.

If you are unhappy enough about the cost to complain about it, perhaps you should rethink your choice of venue/caterer.

That said, I am interested in a more detailed description of your foodstuffs and venue(s).

Semantics like this are the reason people get ulcers.

6K might actually be a bargain, come to think of it. Does this include an open bar? For how many hours do you have the venue?

BBQ in the park, swipe the flowers from the dumpster at the local funeral home, and get married in a nice, pretty white night-gown that you can wear later that night, trust me he won't notice any grass-stains around the hem.

Figure do the whole thing for $500 from nose to tail, and that includes a couple of kegs and all of the dogs and burgers your guests can eat.

Ahh, one of my favorite weddings was the backyard wedding with Subway catering. You can't go wrong with the big sandwich.

It includes but chapel, reception venue, cheeses and fruit for guests as well as a basic chicken dinner.

As for the venue it's a National Historic Landmark Inn and it will be decorated for the holidays and the decor is absolutely gorgeous which is the attraction.

I've now decided to look into packages at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The very first vacation my fiance and I took was to Las Vegas and we stayed at the Bellagio so it has meaning.

Change of plan DS and you're gonna like this...Strike that, you're gonna LOVE this.

I just reserved the chapel at the Bellagio in Las Vegas!! The wedding will be on Saturday February 14, 2009 at 11:00AM with a light fare and cake reception to follow. That's right bitches, I'm getting married on Valentine's Day next year, W00t! And DS you're back in the wedding...I hope you don't mind a pink tie. ;)

We're having the rehearsal dinner at the Draft House so prepare to have a great time!!

My favorite part is, now I can have my wedding shower and register and I don't have to feel guilty if people buy me a gift and can't make it! I am quite happy...QUITE!

Also, there's a live feed on the Internet of the wedding, I'll post the information when the time comes and you can all be there.

Now on to paying the $3,400.00 down payment...

It doesn't get much tackier than that. Well done, it suits you.

Anne and I just got engaged two weeks ago, so non of the hardcore planning has started. Luckily two of our roommates parents have a beautiful lakehouse where alot of their family has gotten married and they've offered to let us use it. Also Mrs. T loves to cook and has offered to help with that! FUCK YEAH. And then another friend of ours parents both do wedding officiating and have for decades so they've got lots of contacts.

I HOPE we can get away with it all for just a couple grand. But the more stuff that comes up the more it looks like I'm fucked. :(

That does sound lovely and so cozy and I'm sure if you budget, budget, budget you'll be able to do it with just a couple grand.

Congratulations!

My sister's wedding was less than $3000. She got her $900 gown for $99 after pointing out to the boutique owner the beadwork was coming loose in places (then of course she sewed it back on herself). She decided against the veil and went with a hair accessory instead, she had the wedding in a church ($100 for the afternoon, included a video and decorations), she had a catered reception with open bar at a local small town community center for 130 people. She rented the centerpieces and made the favors. Several of us with good cameras took rolls and rolls of pictures. Included in that $3000 was a van rental for us to go out of state and another reception (food and drink) and dance for about 150 people. I always told her she should hire herself out as a wedding planner.
