Fox picks up Lucifer pilot

It was on in the'90s and it pissed off the usual suspects. I think the devil may have been gay, as well, so fundies were doubly annoyed at having a) God, b) the devil and c) a gay on tv.
 
If Lucifer was on HBO it would be awesome (especially if it was following a Sandman series also on HBO.)

I've watched the four released. It's not even CLOSE to the comics. There really is no point in trying to do a Vertigo adaptation on fucking network television you fucking cocks!

Tom Ellis is actually kind of fun in this. NO I AM NOT DEFENDING IT. But he's OK.....

The character is nothing like Lucifer from the comics... AT ALL. NOT EVEN A TINY BIT. He's a wisecracking ladies man that is endlessly curious and amused by humans and now wants to fight crime! I really don't see the point of even getting the licence.

I hate Lucifer's red face when he shows his "TRUE SELF YO" to people. It's fucking stupid. Is nothing sacred?

The female detective totty is dumb as fuck as well. She has seen him get shot and not even feel it, push a massive black dude 20 yards through a plate window with a flick of his wrist, hypnotize people and she's seen two massive scars on his back where his wings used to be and seen his red scary face in a mirror and she's still skeptical. That would be better if he didn't LITERALLY TELL HER EVERY TWO SECONDS that he's the devil while doing a whole bunch of supernatural shit.

She's not smart.

Anyhow...once you totally separate this show from the comics it has SOME entertainment value just due to Tom Ellis being a smarmy Brit which is kind of fun to watch. There is VERY little else holding this together though. They can't do anything too dark and interesting on network television.

One Million Mom's is boycotting them and The Olive Garden (they advertise on the show) so that's funny though!

Did you know DC are publishing a new Lucifer comic? I downloaded it because it was in the packs I was downloaded anyway, think I've read two or three issues. It had no involvement from Gaiman or Mike Carey, so it's just a shameless cash-in. It continues the story from the Lucifer comic but completely ruins the ending by having Lucifer come back to Earth! It's so pointless.

I'm going to keep watching it for now. Tom Ellis is worthwhile in the lead even if there isn't a great deal much else to it. MAYBE they do something interesting around mid-season? We will see.

Mazikeen does not have anything wrong with her face. Of course not. Not even mentioned.

I did see the new Lucifer. I read the first issue and have the same thoughts as you. It's just not very good and to have him comeback to go on his own detective mystery on who killed God? Ugh.... it's so poor. Also, I'm pretty sure this is super close to the plot of Preacher. What was it? 79 issues leading up to the penultimate point where he literally leaves existence and he's back just like that? It shits on the original comic badly. The writing clearly doesn't have any of the masterful deep mythological care that Carey and Gaiman could bring to the character so FUCK IT IN ITS KNEES.
 
Did you ever read Mike Carey's zombie book 'The Girl With All The Gifts'? It was good. It's been made into a movie with Gemma Arterton.

Mainly because of Tom Ellis. There has been a shift towards the mythology as opposed to the procedural element which is encouraging. They actually quoted the comics!

He's a pretty good singer as well!
 
Nobody is more surprised than me that I'm actually liking it. It is a pretty big departure from the comics but it's actually telling some good stories and as I keep saying, Ellis is absolutely killing it.
