How come Steve was in the army when he has no legs and no eye ?

Didn't he say he lost them when he was 18 ?

How was he in the army then ?

Did he limp around shooting the Taliban ? Did he have his own mobility scooter ?

Did he wear an eye patch, or even worse shoot one of his own soldiers because of mistaken identity ?
