Wii Attracts Roaches Like Week-Old Pizza, Your White Trash Cousins?




Japanese entertainment rag BARKS is floating the idea that the Wii puts out a sound frequency that "calls out" to and attracts the dirty little creepy-crawlers—gokiburi, one of my favorite Japanese words, even though I hate roaches. It's probably bunk and (BARK admits it might be), but have any of you noticed your pad's become a roach motel despite maintaining the same standard of (un)cleanliness? The 360's bomb shelter-flattening fan would probably negate the effects if you're looking for a quick fix. Also!

I'm too lazy to translate the whole thing, but there's some fun anti-Chinese ribbing in one of the little conversations when his editorial department asks the writer if he's sure it's not a Chinese Vii that's attracting the roaches.

The dig's familiar to me, 'cause when I lived in a heavily Chinese neighborhood in Japan, I got to hear from locals (Japanese ones, obviously) all the time about how I'd get robbed by dirty Chinese indigents and my apartment would be bug-infested before I blinked despite my bleach-loaded OCD clean routine. Okay! Totally irrelevant personal anecdote over.

BY DRYWALL AT 12/13/07 11:01 PM I actually saw something similar last weekend. A friend was playing his Wii with some other people when he suddenly went into the kitchen looking like something was on fire.

Nothing was on fire but there were a ton of ants living inside his Wiimote. There seemed to be a lot of them on the back of the battery cover but even after they shook the thing out for a good solid 10 minutes they kept finding more and more inside it.

He said he never spilled anything inside his wiimote but something definitely attracted those ants to it.

Such a weird accusation to make. I got no roaches, but then again, my building is brand new and I live on the 11th floor.

BY JIBBLY AT 12:26 AM I think roaches and other pests generally like to incubate themselves in warm places. If you have your wii on standby all the time it's probably a pretty warm place to be. It also has plenty of openings for the buggers to get into.

Mostly, this will only be a problem if you have a roach problem to begin with. If your house is clean, then you probably have nothing to worry about.

Wii attracts roaches?

That just means you'll use get to use your hands for the Wii, AND your feet for stomping roaches!

ITS A COMPLETE EXERCISE!
 
I learned the hard way that they REALLY DO attarct Roaches. I was given one for Christmas, and last time I saw it, roaches from the neighbors house were running across the yard with it on their backs :huh:
 
Actually, electronic gadgets do attract some types of roaches that live in heavily wooded areas. Those roaches are particularly hard to kill and infest quickly. After having tried a number of methods to get rid of them, I've found a brand that works great on these tough, nasty roaches. It is Hot Shot liquid bait. It is hard to find because it works so very well - not much of a repeat market for it. This is one of the few products I endorse.
