As some of you know, I'm from the Bungie.net Troll Group. We are a very tight knit group that shares personal hardships and an occaisional triumph in our lives with each other. I'm hoping I can have the same with the people here at the Troll Kingdom.
Anyway, recently I lost a very dear friend. I've know him since we were in grade school. We fought because he cut in front of me in the line at the cafeteria...I still remember jamming my elbow into the back of his skull and him turning around and punching me in the stomach...good times.
We went to the principal's office and both got swatted good (back when teachers were allowed to physically discipline kids) and as we walked back to class, Jon said to me "That didn't really hurt." and I agreed with him and we laughed even though we both walked a little funny for the rest of the day. We played at recess together for the rest of the year and the years afterwards. I remember playing Nintendo (Contra, Life Force, ect.) with Jon, us staying up all night watching scary movies, daring each other to eat pop rocks and drink a coke at the same time. Jon had a problem with facing reality for some reason so lost himself in stupid urban legends and scary movies and freaked himself out a lot as a kid.
Anywho, we grew up, went to college. I went to the University of Texas, he went to OU. We'd rib each other about the rivalry between our two schools, but we both were still friends and everyone knew it. I was always there for Jon, even during the hard times, and we both said we'd be there for each other no matter what.
That's why when I heard he killed himself, I was so shocked. I heard about it on the news "OU Student Blows Himself Up in Norman, Oklahoma". I didn't want to believe it was him, but when I logged into Ogrish.com to get pics of the gruesome death, sure enough, I saw a pack of Pop Rocks and a Coke besides Jon's assploded body. I guess he was right after all.
RIP John Henry Hinrichs III
