That is inconceivable for me ... it's actually the first song I've ever heard of them. I was about ten or something.

But you know the rest of the songs from that album, right?

  1. Mustapha (Mercury)
  2. Fat Bottomed Girls (May)
  3. Jealousy (Mercury)
  4. Bicycle Race (Mercury)
  5. If You Can’t Beat Them (Deacon)
  6. Let Me Entertain You' (Mercury)
  7. Dead on Time (May)
  8. In Only Seven Days (Deacon)
  9. Dreamer's Ball (May)
  10. Fun It (Taylor)
  11. Leaving Home Ain’t Easy (May)
  12. Don't Stop Me Now (Mercury)
  13. 'More of That Jazz (Taylor)

It occured to me as I was listening to this it's one quarter step away from old timey Gospel. The sound of it is deeply rooted in the same I'd say -

I've always heard more opera than gospel in it, as in the majority of their songs, but esp. Mercury drew from so many musical sources that it stands to reason he'd implement gospel, as well. I think the first two albums have much more elements of it than the later material, though.

I used to do sessions where I would play their records in chronological order to get their musical development*, and what's clear to me is that each album is build on the foundation of the predecessors. They never lost their taste for classical elements in all those years, but the way those influences shine through were different.

Check this out with regards to gospel: (from Queen I)
