OK. I get that Borgs' staff plotted a coup against him. I get that Nick Walzack used his position as administrator to steal Wordforge's database from Borgs. I get that Listkeeper set up a URL to exploit this theft of intellectual property.

I forget what the arguments were justifying this theft. I guess that the ends justified the means. :shrug: And maybe there can be some kind of argument made supporting it (if anyone knows that argument, please post it here). I guess it was that using the database didn't guarantee that posters would migrate there.

The question I'm wondering is, had Borgs called their bluff, how would the stolen database have been used? Would they have just stolen the member list and the forum format? Or would they have actually stolen all the posts as well? Would the skins and smilies have been used? Would they have gone the whole nine yards--had a URL of HavenBBS and used the Wordforge logo Scorponok developed?

Inquiring minds want to know. :cylon:
 
If you've got the database than you have essentially a clone of the original board. Posts, images, PMs, stats and IPs are all included.
 
Yeah. I'm just curious if they would've used the whole thing or if they would've done the ethical thing and not rip Borgs off lock, stock and barrel. :cylon:
 
If they had any of those considerations then why did they even bother grabbing a backup?

Also keep in mind that at one point they had the board set up and ready to go with members posting on it before Borgs finally handed over control of WF.
 
Well, since both Nick and Listkeeper post here from time to time, maybe they will share their plan with us? :chris:
 
Silly Volpone, if any theft was done, it was done for the good of the board so that makes it ok.

WF is vBulletin, so you need a paid/registered copy of it to run a board, even a stolen one. Wouldn't someone would have to shell out the money (or get a serial hack) in order to truly "steal" and use/re-upload a board?
 
I gotta ask. What's vBulletine have to offer over free board software like PHPbb?
 
Does it help that I know which files would need to be hacked to make php karma work? (If only I knew what the code would have to be...)
