I don't like the end of Wrath of Khan

Not so much Spock dying, or that before going to warp the enterprise is meant to be 1,000s of miles away from the reliant, but still have them both in the same frame.

Its the bit where after Spock is dead, and Scotty's nephew, and a load of redshirts noone cares about, that they stand on the bridge smiling at the new planet.

it just seems totally out of character, and just seems to be there to mimic the "eveyone laughs" ending from countless episodes.

I see what you mean, but when you lose someone really close you can latch on to anything positive around you or that's come from them. Seeing a beautiful new planet created because of a friend's death might provide something else to focus on and some small thing to feel grateful for.

And let's not forget Kirk gained a son as well, so it wasn't all doom and gloom.

It was a movie about getting old and facing death, ending with Kirk feeling young again after seeing a new planet be born was thematically resonant.

I enjoy Search for Spock but I have a lot more problems with it than Wrath of Khan (like everyboyd, probably.) Killing David on top of destroying the Enterprise and making Carol and David's life's work useless was a bit much. But Shatner's acting was great in the "Klingon bastard..." scene.
