I hate Mad Men

There.
I said it.
Why does anyone like this show? Besides watching the drunk driving, smoking and drinking pregnant women and the kid playing with a plastic bag over their head I can't stand being reminded how great it was for women in the 60's and how much it has changed.
The glamorized affairs, the sugar daddys, they had it all! Except for Sal, I love Salvatore. I am only on season 1.

There's a pretty compelling reading of Mad Men as a show about dismantling the 1950s boys clubs. It's very easy to read the ad people as heroes early on, but it becomes more and more clear over time that they fucking suck, and that the people they're keeping down are the good guys (women).

But, also. You don't have to watch it!

I know! I will probably only watch a few more episodes as I am house sitting and they have the whole series here. I won't ask to borrow it either! I did catch the local apple crate cameo however!

I like the acting and the writing and the attention to detail! Don Draper isn't really a good person but he's compelling to watch. I don't think you're supposed to think things were great for the women, even if the women thought things were great at first (characters develop!)

Pete Campbell falls down the stairs one time and it's funny.

I just finished season 1. I am debating asking to borrow each season as I finish watching it. I want to see what happens to Peggy, and sort of Joan and the mysterious Mr Sterling.

I am giving up Mad Men for Lent. Oh is Lent over? I will try again next year. I wasn't talking about the series anyway. ; )

I do want to start a "Favorite Mad Men Quotes" section however.

I never got into it, my mom liked it though.

It was disappointing to find out Elizabeth Moss was a Scientologist.
