I have always wanted to be a professional musician

However, it ends up being the case that between Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, and Wilco, everything I could dream of writing-saying-dreaming-communicating has already been done, and better than I can.

If I were still a beautiful young man, I could probably make out with some snarky record exec who talks about my "potential" but actually hires Mutt Lang to write my music and produce my record. I'd be huge in Austria (or was it Australia?) and ditch my current beau for a milieu of hot young girls on the road who don't really want me, they want a piece of the action.

I could probably feign sincerity for an album and I'm an entertaining-enough performer to be able to stay on the road for awhile.

But at bottom, I don't want to write music for today. I don't want to be either saccharinely commercial (like the above) or dead-eyed sincere (like Bright Eyes, the Shins etc). I don't want to struggle, I don't want to "get my message out" because honestly, do I have a message? If I do, it's "take care of each other" and that's only like five words.

So instead, I'll just get lit and parrot Dylan's live version "Desolation Row" on my back porch while my kids play in the backyard and the light tapers off to evening.

And maybe someday I'll scrape together five or six grand and just go into a studio for a week to make ten of my best songs sound the way they do in my head. Is that enough?

It better be.

I'm all for it, buddy. Need a bass player? I'll play that shit like nobody's business.

I ask myself what I'm doing when I play out... I'm certainly not wanting or headed for commercial success... I just really love playing my instrument, and I throroughly enjoy playing for a crowd of disinterested hipsters.

If you want to write those ten songs - that's all the reason you should need. Write the fuckers. Get them out of your head, and if you love them, then that's worth somethin'.

Need a video editor for your music videos? Give me a bell.

In all seriousness go for it man, make stuff that you want to listen too, don't try and live up to something you expect in unnatainable. Thats when you do your best work. If you don't get the goosebumps how do you expect anyone else too? (Quincy is wise)

Go for it, if you have any tracks then post them up!

Need the worlds best unsigned drummer? I've also got a 256 track digi studio (the Roland 1680) with a CD burner.

Well, there you have it. We have a compose-via-email band. You write the guitar and singing parts, SBV, I'll throw some bass down in my studio, then jack adds drums and puts the final mix on it.

Easy. We may burn some things to disk for the big files, but all the MIDI shit can be emailed.

It CAN be done!

Do you need an accordian player? Sorry, I cant play but I'm good at faking and I wouldnt mind getting up on stage and being famous.
