(But frankly... I'd prefer America. At least there I can order my food without a Babelfish.

Is it warm in Portland in October? Because no way will I meet y'all in thick, completely unflattering sweatshirts and coats and boots and stuff.
 
The Northwest is always warm or cool (at least temperate on the coastal plains). When I lived in Washington we'd almost never get more than two days of snow a year and often went for two or three years without any. For the most part I think it's similar to Lower Bavaria.
 
That sounds like a good enough climate. Unless the two days of snow usually are in October. That would not be OK ;)
OK, I'll check if it's possible for me to come to Portland in October, but I really can't promise anything!
