I'm really starting to HATE these Computer Generated Monsters

Unluckiest Charm in the Box
What ever happened to the Good ol Days when they actually used either Real Actors in makeup and rubber suits, or Stop Motion Claymation Monsters!

Hollywood should start taking cues from the Japanese. They make better monsters and are far mor creative with them!

:mmph:

I hate scripts that read like stupid video games. Zero plot or character development, just stereotypes and easily translatable action sequences that you can practically guess will be placed in the game release. "Oh here's a climbing sequence. I bet level three..."

DO ANY OF YOU IDIOTS REMEMBER HOW TO WRITE A GODDAMN STORY?

No, they don't. I'd say the last time I gave Hollywood a "pass" on story vs. visual effects was "The Cell". Since then I need a Story, I (and I suspect many others) am jaded and spoiled by visuals.

"The Thing" (John Carpenter's version). Great "practical" special effects. Watch it if you haven't. CGI would not have improved it at all.

The Thing is a masterpiece of terror. As my boy got into scary flicks I began to show him the difference between good horror and bad horror, until now he understands that atmosphere and filming skill and storytelling will beat effects every time. I used the Thing for its claustrophobic visuals and paranoia, Alien for close, dark shots, the Shining for the long, tight hallway shots and surreal visual effects plus masterful scene cutting, and Jaws for how to scare somebody silly just with music. Of course I added others, and there are some modern movies that do it well, but for the most part CGI (and now the renewed "3D" craze) are just substitutes for the storytelling that has always been the most important part of any film.

The last horror movies I can remember seeing and actually enjoyed was Freddy Krugers "Nightmare on Elms Street" and the Japanese thriller "The Grudge"!

After that ran its course..everything went down hill!!

Donovan, you show him the social commentary horror films like what Romero does?

Don't forget to go outside the US for horror. Argento is a god.
