...is p-r-e-z-i-o-n an accepted spelling of "present"?

It is, according to a writing teacher at my school.

"Don't worry about how it's spelled. You got the meaning right."

Meanwhile, I teach correct grammar in the back alleys of the school, sneaking proper spelling and pronunciation behind the backs of educators who should know better.

Oh, and cattle is both singular and plural. Just so you know... :rolleyes:

Archie--I was being sarcastic. Cattle is *always* plural, contrary to what some say. Moose is an intriguing example, however. I will inquire further.

I have been on the job for less than a month, and I'm tired of hearing literacy teachers stumble over word pronunciations (starred is *not* pronounced stared), spellings, and grammar rules. I am truly alarmed at the fact that those who are entrusted with the minds of our youth struggle with 6th grade English.

aeommai and Mystique--She is actually a very nice person, just very disappointing in some areas.

I really, really, really wish I was still in Plato's Cave. Life was so much easier just being oblivious to mediocrity.
 
Friday, what kind of school are you working at now? Is this not typical of schools in general these days?

I don't know the condition of schools these days since my daughter is now a grown person.

I work in a regular middle school, but in the resource classes.

And yes, the typical state of schools these days is a disgrace.

I'll add more tomorrow. I'm falling asleep on my keyboard. ;)

If she let me put her picture up here you'd know she is a very good looking person. She'll have to decide if she wants to share with TK though I doubt she will. As you know, many people here make it their purpose to be mean and hateful no matter what.
