Italy 1 - USA 1 Final

Conchaga

Let's fuck some shit up
What can I say? The US finally came out and started playing football. THIS is the team that should've trounced the Czech Republic. However, it was great to watch my two favorite teams in the world face-off. By the end of the match every player on the pitch was exhausted. That's how it's supposed to be. You go onto the field you play your heart out. At the end of the game there shouldn't be much fight left in you.

I guess the betting scandal in Italy has reached the World Cup. This Ref. needs to be taken out back and shot, period. The red cards against the US players were uncalled for. Mastroeni's tackle was a late tackle, but his studs were not up. This should've been a yellow, at most. We've seen plenty of similar late tackles like that since the first game was played in this World Cup. The end result was always a yellow, not a red. Totally bad call. That call was a total makeup. Next, the call against Pope was another unfounded yellow/red. That shouldn't have even been a yellow. It was a physical foul, where the end result should've been nothing more than a free kick by Italy. The Ref should've pulled Pope aside and warned him, not going straight for the cards. One more note about this ref. He was suspended in 2002 because of irregularities. He made several calls that were challenged by other refs in the league. Subsequently, he was suspended and couldn't call games in the 2002 WC.

That being said, wow, what a match! Italy wasn't playing as well as they could've. They were giving up posession way too much. They couldn't get their attackers into the right positions at the right times. Lippi's subs, were the saving piont. Gatuso was definitely the right player to replace Totti with. Although, I will hand it to them, they are not an attacking team but they did manage quite a few great shots.

The US was finally playing up to expectations. Had we not lost two of our players on such shitty calls, I think we would've taken it 2:1, at least. Watching Dempsey was a sight to behold. The Italians couldn't get the ball away from him. Then, when he was running, he just left the Italians choking on his dust. At one point it took three defenders and a foul to stop his advance! He was playing with a cockiness that was missing from the US:Czech game.

Keller... He made a believer out of me. Finally making the stops that he's known for. And what saves they were. One handed, he repelled the Italian's advance.

I'll have to thank Gagh and his British cohorts for making McBride tough as a coffin nail. He took a hefty beating and was still making shots towards the end of the game.

I got a bit worried when Italy scored the first goal. I saw the US players give up for a bit. Then, thanks to Zaccardo, he put the US spirits back on track.

Now, I can just sit back and cheer for my two favorite teams on Thursday. The rest should be easy enough.

It was the heat that exhausted them. Not just the game dimweed. In my estimation they seemed to have done more than play their hearts out. It had reached the point where I began to wonder who exactly the USA has been fighting a war with. Iraqi insurgents or the Italian football team?
As for the US player being red-carded it, I must admit it did look as if his cleats were up. That is a foul worthy of a red card but it was hard to tell. I watched it and thought it was so close to call but I would venture to guess it should have been a yellow card as a warning. Not a red. Wops are known for their theatrics. In Italy, they have special football schools where players learn to roll all over the field screaming as if their legs have been chopped off or their heads split open in order to gain a favourable ruling. Italy even has awards shows in Rome where the 'best dramatic fake football injury resulting in a penalty call' awards are held. It very much resembles Hollywood's Oscar Awards.

FIFA's been instructing referees to crack down on the two footed tackles; that call for the lunge on Pirlo was deserving of a red card & about the only one Larrionda made that he had no option on, IMO.

(Plucky Yanks, I'll give them that.)

What a bizarre match!

Yeah, but he called everything that looked like a foul in the first half, then he just stopped calling fouls. Seriously, there's something 'irregular' about that.

But isn't it odd that Buffon and some of the players from Juve were involved in a betting scandal that included the bribing of officials so that they could have the advantage in the games? Then, as soon as the US opens the game where they have 58% control of the ball for the first 30 min then he starts calling fouls galore on the US. He penalized the Italians enough to make it look like he was being fair, then he just slams the US with so many fouls and free kicks that it throws the game in Italy's favor. Go check out the stats. The us fouls were 24, Italian 13. That's a little lopsided.

I shall admit openly to being puzzled by this game. I saw the US - CZECH game. That was not the same US team. Is it possible all the players could have been switched around with ringers? I mean fuck against the CZECHS they played as if in a fucking trance. Along comes Italy and they play like they need to retrieve their stolen cocks the night before a date with Pamela Anderson. Something fishy going on there I daresay.
The match further strengthened the 'stereotype' that all WOPS are nothing but crybaby weak-kneed wussies bent on having their way.

Juventus will be relegated in the second or third italian soccer division the next year
One of my dreams coming true.

It happened to the Fiorentinas several years ago. I was in Florence when they won the Seria B final to put them back in Seria A. The whole city erupted in celebration. People were literally dancing in the streets. I'm not talking about a few stragglers There were mobs of 100+. I could hear the cheering from the stadium on the other side of the Arno.

They'll get thrown in the lowest division, Seria c2. It'll take them four seasons to get back to the top.
