It's One Thing...

Friday

Bazinga!
...for a free web based email site like yahoo or hotmail to regularly go down.

But when a paid site like mac.com is not accessible for hours at a time...it pisses me off. I want a refund, dammit! :rwmad:

It's not down over here... were you still able to check yer mail via the OS X Mail client?

A .Mac account gives you a gig of web space, a bunch of services liek a web page, a blog, a photobook, a place to share mpg movies, music, syncronization between machines for common files and settings (on the fly) and integration with almost every Apple based application made. Your "key" to your Mac.

Yeah, it's $99.99 a year... I myself haven't purchased one, it doesn't seem to be a justified expense, but there are a couple things I'd like to do that requires one - namely syncing my calendar with my wife's.

I know from my customers, though, that an extra hundred buck is nothing and the perception is that you won't get the most out of your mac without a .mac account (not quite true).

Maybe it's just my customer base, but money isn't the first concern to these people. Having an email address that's easy for their friends/family/mistresses to remember. I would tell you some of the rediculous email addresses they create - but that would be unethical.

It's still down for me. Maybe the local server is on the fritz?

Ish, I never use the OS X mail client. I don't even know if I have one.

And I love my email address. It tells people, "Yep, I'm a Machead...and proud of it!" :D

Still up for me... that's weird...

You most certainly have the OS X Mail client... it's built into the OS. Go to Macintosh HD > Applications > Mail. If this is the first time Mail starts up, you'll get a tour (if you want it) and a assistant that will help you set up your .mac account.

If an assistant doesn't pop up, go to the menubar and select Mail > Preferences > Accounts and click on the "+" sign in the lower left hand corner. This will populate the assistant.

Ask questions if you have them!

The site doesn't load at all. I type in the url, and the little circly thing goes round and round...but all I get is a blank, white page.

The mail client...I found it, and I can read my mail, but can't send anything out. I have 3 or 4 yahoo and hotmail accounts, but either they've expired, or I've forgotten the password to them. I'll reactivate them in a pinch, but it's a pain in the ass.

Thanks for taking time with me, Ishy. It's always appreciated.

And you too, FBI. :)

FYI, Yahoo and Hotmail make you pay for a premium account if you want to check mail via a mail client - free for web.

As far as not being able to send anything out... did you let the assistant configure the .mac address for you or did you configure it manually? What's your outgoing mail server, are you using authentication, what?

I HAVE TO KNOW THAT YOU CAN EMAIL!!!

Ishy...I can now log on to mac.com. It's the weirdest thing. It just suddenly came back. I'm not questioning it...I'm just glad. :D

I'm using Mozilla, BTW.

Again, thanks for your help...as always. :)

Ahh, Mozilla... It's an OK browser and all, but there can be bugs. I keep a squad of four different browsers, Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, and Camino. Some shit doesn't work in one, I switch to the next.

Glad to see you're back in the game, Friday. T'would be a shame if'n you weren't, IMHO!
