Jaguars, Florida, Georgia condemn antisemitic message at game

The Jaguars, University of Florida and University of Georgia strongly condemned an antisemitic message projected onto one of the giant videoboards at TIAA Bank Field on Saturday as well as antisemitic banners displayed on a Jacksonville overpass on Friday. The message at the stadium appeared after Florida and Georgia played their annual game at TIAA Bank Field on Saturday. The message displayed on the backside of one of the TIAA Bank Field videoboards read, "Kanye was right about the Jews." That was in reference to recent tweets and antisemitic comments made recently by musician/producer/designer Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. According to WJXT TV-4 in Jacksonville, there also were two banners displayed on an overpass near Interstate 10 on Friday that read "End Jewish Supremacy in America" and "Honk if you know it's the Jews."

Nike suspends relationship with Kyrie Irving; Kyrie 8 launch off

Nike has suspended its relationship with Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving in the wake of the controversy surrounding his social media post about a book and movie containing antisemitic tropes, the company announced Friday night. Nike also said it will no longer launch Irving's new shoe, the Kyrie 8. The shoe, Irving's eighth with the company, had been slated for a November 8 release. Irving, 30, was suspended by the Nets on Thursday night for at least five games without pay after failing to formally apologize for his post and failing to clarify whether he held antisemitic beliefs. Irving apologized in an Instagram post later that night, writing in part: "To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post, I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain and I apologize." On Friday evening, several players were wearing Kyrie-branded shoes. Going forward, it remains to be seen if Nike will request current endorsing athletes to halt wearing prior Kyrie sneakers in games altogether.

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant said the fallout from Kyrie Irving's social media posts that centered on an antisemitic book and movie is an "unfortunate situation" that "just sucks all around for everybody and hopefully we can move past it." "I ain't here to judge nobody or talk down on nobody for how they feel, their view or anything," Durant said following the Friday shootaround. "I just didn't like anything that went on. I feel like it was all unnecessary. I felt like we could have just kept playing basketball and kept quiet as an organization. I just don't like none of it."

Darius Slay appears to compare Kyrie Irving backlash to Brett Favre

Eagles cornerback Darius Slay seemed to defend embattled Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving in the wake of Irving's anti-Semitism controversy. Slay, a four-time Pro Bowler, took to social media on Saturday to compare Irving's suspension by the Nets for promoting an anti-Semitic documentary to the Mississippi welfare fraud scandal involving Favre. Without naming Irving specifically, Slay pointed out that Favre "didn't issue an apology or nothing" for his role in the misappropriation of millions of dollars of welfare funds." Brett Favre still big chilling huh!! Guess we forgot what he did," Slay added.
