Does this mean I have to read the graphic novel now to appear urbane and hip. I won't be able to function if I am not able to say "The Graphic novels are more detailed and darker in tone than the movie" in a few years.

Yep I saw this on AV Club. It really does seem they are going to butcher it and he wanted no part of it. Can't' blame him, he was a purist.
