Well he did a good job for the most part not saying anything racist/sexist/homophobic (though that comment about Lionel "acting gay" was a bit dodgy.) Maybe he really has changed in those respects. But he mainly got a sympathy vote thanks to Linda's completely ill-thought out attacks on him. If she really wanted to expose him she should have waited until he actually did something that could pounce on, instead of just waffling at him and making him look like a victim. Plus sympathy for his wrongful arrest (let's just accept that it was for now) and the "PC gone mad!" brigade thinking if they voted him to win it would be acceptable to make out-dated jokes again. He did start to slip up with his "come and sit on Daddy's lap little schoolgirl Casey!" commnets in the last few days but I guess it came too late for his image to change from "victim" to "creepy old git."
