An upstate New York kindergarten teacher was busted this week for having a stash of kiddie porn in his bedroom — and children’s underwear stuffed in his mattress, Rochester federal prosecutors announced on Wednesday.
Roland Yockel, a teacher with the Brockport Central School District, was charged with using and distributing child pornography after agents with Homeland Security’s Criminal Investigations Unit stormed his Hilton, NY, home on Tuesday.
Once inside, they found sex videos and pornographic photos of girls ages four to seven years old, they said.
They also found children’s underwear under Yockel’s mattress, which he said he had stolen from children’s backpacks during a recent stint as a camp counselor, according to the feds.
Yockel, 30, told HSI investigators that he never touched the students from his kindergarten class or the camp, but admitted that he had “actively watched children in their bathing suits in hope that they may expose intimate areas.”
Yockel also lives at home with his parents, who run a babysitting service in their residence — and he admitted to agents to having played “games” with a child his mother used to babysit, including “manipulating the child’s clothes so that he could see her ‘private parts’ when he picked her up,” according to the complaint.
He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
Brockport Central School District didn’t return a request for comment.
Before being hired with the Brockport Central Scool District in August, Yockel worked as a summer camp coordinator at Hamlin Recreation, according to his Facebook page.
Hamlin Recreation didn’t return a request for comment, but director Anke Applebaum posted a note on the camp’s Facebook page that referenced Yockel by name.
“It will be as a community that we will get through this and I sincerely thank you for your kind words of support,” she said in the post.
Members of the public who have information related to this case have been urged to contact HSI’s Buffalo office at 716-464-5923.
“Based upon his access to children and the nature of the allegations in this case, we believe there is a possibility there are unidentified child victims,” said Kevin Kelly, Special Agent-in-Charge for HSI Buffalo.
