LIV Golf UK by JCB: Team Power Rankings

Here are the Team Power Rankings for the 11th event of the LIV Golf League season.

1. Crushers GC. The Crushers sit atop this week’s power rankings as they continue to hold a sizeable lead in the season-long team standings coming off back-to-back runner-up finishes. Bryson DeChambeau was the only team member to tee it up at Royal Troon last week, where he surprisingly missed the cut. Reserve player John Catlin, however, had an excellent tournament and was T15 going into the final round. It’s unclear whether Catlin will start at LIV Golf UK, or whether regular team member Charles Howell III will return after missing the last two events. Prediction: DeChambeau, Lahiri, Casey, Howell III.

2. Fireballs GC. Following a slow start to the season, the Fireballs have turned it on during the second half of the year with a pair of T2 results and then claimed a sensational back-from-nowhere victory on home turf in Spain two weeks ag. Sergio Garcia’s individual win at Valderrama propelled him up to third in the season-long standings. Abraham Ancer was the lone player on the team to make the cut at The Open Championship. Prediction: Garcia, Ancer, Chacarra, Puig

3. Torque GC. Torque continue to search for their first victory of the year, but they’ve been a model of consistency as the only team to finish in the top half of every event. Joaquin Niemann has a commanding lead in the individual standings and was playing well at Royal Troon before fading over the weekend. Carlos Ortiz has also been a key piece of the jigsaw, posting a top-15 finish in over half of his starts. Prediction: Niemann, Ortiz, Munoz, Pereira

Jon Rahm earns first title since joining LIV Golf

Jon Rahm won his first LIV Golf title on Sunday when teammate Tyrrell Hatton missed a 6-foot par putt on No. 18 that could have forced a playoff at LIV United Kingdom in Rocester, England. Rahm carded a 4-under-par 67 to finish ahead by one stroke at 13-under 271 at JCB Golf and Country Club. The Spaniard recorded five birdies at Nos. 2, 6, 10, 12 and 13 before making his lone bogey with a three-putt at the par-3, 231-yard No. 17 and closing out with a par. The captain of the victorious Legion XIII team, Rahm finished one hole ahead of England's Hatton, who was tied at 13 under before his putt at No. 18 slid to the right of the hole. Rahm, who left the PGA Tour in December when he was the No. 3 golfer in the world, had not won a tournament since the 2023 Masters. Legion XIII earned its fourth team title this season at 26 under with Rahm, Hatton, American Caleb Surratt (even) and Zimbabwe's Kieran Vincenet (1 over) contributing scores.

Brooks Koepka beats Jon Rahm in LIV Golf Greenbrier playoff
In the playoff at the par-3 18th, Rahm went over the green and into the bunker, leaving himself a tough shot in which one foot was in the sand. He blasted out to about 25 feet, and his par putt to extend the playoff caught the edge of the cup. Koepka also won LIV Golf Singapore this year. He picked up his fifth career victory since the Saudi-funded league began in June 2022.

LIV players allowed on U.S. Ryder Cup team, PGA of America says

The PGA of America announced Thursday that LIV Golf players are eligible to compete in both the PGA Championship and U.S. Ryder Cup teams going forward. LIV Golf's Brooks Koepka was part of last year's U.S. Ryder Cup team because of a grace period that allowed him to remain a PGA of America member through 2024, but it was not clear how the body would further handle the divide in professional golf. "Going forward, all LIV Golf players are eligible for the PGA Championship and any American player who qualifies for the Ryder Cup on points or is added to the U.S. team as a captain's pick is eligible to compete," the PGA of America said. "This is consistent with LIV Golf players competing in the PGA Championship the past two years. Brooks Koepka was a member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team last year." LIV Golf, which is funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, did not immediately respond when asked to comment on the PGA of America's decision. The European Ryder Cup team has a pathway in place for those with LIV Golf to be eligible for the biennial match-play event, with the main criteria being they must play at least four events on the Europe-based DP World Tour per year. In addition, those players must also pay fines for competing in tournaments on the Saudi-funded circuit that conflicted with DP World Tour events without requesting permission from the European-based circuit.
