It would have been art if he added ", sir" at the end.Thank you and have a good day.
It used to be a pastime of mine to be a serious thorn in staff members who took themselves to seriously.WTF Cow?
Too bad you are the authority here. You would be more fun back on the side of the lowly membership.
You just couldn't help but piss all over those poor religious folk couldn't you!!!!!!Jesus Camp actually scared me a bit.
It seemed to me that the camps these kids were set to were nothing more than fascist training camps.
As in "YOU WILL BELIEVE WITHOUT A DOUBT WHAT WE PREACH AND YOU WILL SPREAD THE WORD WITH A SMILE ON YOUR FACE."
But then again, I'm not fond of people who can't think for themselves, so meh.
Just to stay kind of on topic.
Me: I'm just curious as to what about my post caused you to lock the thread?
I wasn't attacking religion. Have you seen the movie? The directors purposefully made it appear that way for the shock value.
Thanks in advance for the answer.
Him: Maybe you weren't attacking religion per se, but your comment was rather incendiary and more than likely would have caused a lot of piling-on.
When you've moderated a forum for as long as I have you develop an ability to predict trends.
In short, it's not your fault. What would have happened as a result of what you said that caused me to lock the thread. Besides, religious discussions are seldom a good idea no matter where you are which is why they're discouraged outside of the political forum.
Take care,
Jack.
Me: So I'm not allowed to have an opinion here about religion for a whole month?
In a community this large, it's inevitably going to come up.
I've been a moderator for a very long time too, and I know that you don't lock threads preemptively. When a problem arises, sure, but it's not conducive to discussion.
So if I were to talk about a movie involving the death penalty or abortion or drug use I wouldn't be able to comment on my opinion of the issue because it wouldn't be in the politics forum? Films (in large) are meant to be an insight into the way society works, and they inevitably involve controversial issues. You can't have forums dedicated to them (and books and even music) and not expect these kinds of discussion to arise.

When I closed this thread I quoted Cacophony's post. That does not mean that it was his post that prompted me to close this thread. I was fearful his comments would lead to some piling-on but the fault is not his entirely.
I just wanted everyone to know that so you wouldn't judge our new frined too harshly.
Thanks,
Jack

HIM: Oh please.
No one is saying you're not entitled to your opinions, you are just asked to confine them to certain areas of the board.
You may be a mod on another board but that doesn't mean that this board operates the same way that yours does. You seem a smart fellow and I'm surprised I have to explain that to you.
The bottom line is that I'm just complying with the wishes of the adminstrators.
ME: I know, but what I'm saying is that on a board such as this, it's impossible to avoid those discussions in any forum. A politics forum is a wonderful idea. It keeps the heated discussion centralized so it doesn't spew all over the rest of the board.
I've not yet been able to look in depth into many of the forums yet, but I know that on a few other music-related forums that I post on, the users enjoy breaking down the lyrics and interpreting them. Think of songs like "The Weapon" and "Tom Sawyer" and "A Farewell to Kings" being broken down. Can't you imagine the interpretations possibly leading into a discussion on something controversial? Religion or even just society in general. Would those too be moved to the politics forum, even though they have no reason to be there?
What I'm trying to illustrate is that you can't quell discussion, especially before it starts. That leaves you with nothing more than a petty fansite. It's through in depth discussion that people build relationships, and that's how a forum thrives.
Who's the administrator that's in charge, here? I see there are three, but I'm sure one of them has to be the owner.
Also, I'm not a guy.
The administrators of this forum will hear of this moderator's transgressions!
